Strains for depressive personality types..

I've kinda tilted my brain chemistry towards the depressive end of my bipolar diagnoses with so much MDMA, I know there's gotta be some out there in my same shoes who stay medicated.. I notice whenever I smoke a lot of diesel/kush strains, not only does my tolerance go through the fucking roof but by the end of 4-5 days trying to stay high I end up in these mental funks and this is the entire thing I'm trying to avoid when smoking!

I smoked some Cocoa Kush not too long ago that seemed to have potential but I didn't really have enough to see if it kept me in a bright mental state, I guess that's what I'm looking for, a strain that has no ceiling and gravitates towards positive energies and will help me to forget my woes. I hear good things about Mexican landraces, if anybody knows of seedbanks selling pure Mexican stock I would be most grateful to hear about it.

So aside from the obvious (DJ Short), what are some other strains which help you stay positive? I'm a CA medical patient so clone strains are available to me, if you know of any that fit this bill it would be nice to have a quicker yield via clones, though if there is a seedline which holds these properties I have no qualms putting in work for nirvana..

Thank you!

Hands down, Spice of Life Sweet Tooth. One of the few strains that is widely recommended for depression as the high is very positive and comforting with low to no anxiety. You can wake up the next day feeling sunshiney & refreshed. It will put a smile on your face without a doubt, totally happy pot. It comes from the Sweet Pink Grapefruit clone x DJ's famous chromatic BB male, backcrossed to the SPG a few times depending on the version. :canabis:

The Sweet Tooth #4 hybrid (with an extra 1/3 DJ's Blueberry x SOL Sweet Skunk added) on seedbay right now with a few days left would probably fit your needs perfectly you might want to check it out. Otherwise see if you can find a local Sweet Tooth clone that is verifiable from Spice of Life stock, not the Barney's one it is a totally different strain.

Also, check out Flo & F13 by DJ Short and Blue Satellite 2.2 by Spice of Life, the Sweet Tooth #3 x Cindy 99 by Dutchgrown named Sweetest Cindy could be a good choice too as the C99 is pretty "up" but can cause anxiety for some depending on the phenotype & tolerance. I would start here and see how it goes dude! Sometimes taking a little break from smoking for a few days at a time is very helpful too if you ever start to feel like a zombie. It's all about balance. :)

Peace & good vibes to you bro! :joint:

A lot of people with bipolar disorder or depression also suffer from anxiety disorder. My brother is bipolar, and I have moderate depression. We both have anxiety disorder. One of the things we both have noticed is that some strains will trigger an anxiety attack if we imbibe too much. For me, too much C99 and I'm having heart palpitations. A few hits, no problem, but a few too many and yikes!

Despite what my shrink says about weed being a depressant, yadda, yadda, it doesn't seem to affect my depression in a negative way. I like the heavy, narcotic Indica buzz. I do find that Blueberry gives me a nice lift without the anxiety.

But we are all wired differently (chemically speaking). If you don't have anxiety, this probably isn't an issue. If you do, some of the racier, heart thumping strains might make you flip out. Or not. Just an observation.

Not sure what others will think of Apollo 11, but I found it to be a very uplifting happy high for me. Others that have been beneficial to me and my depression are Strawberry Cough, Blueberry, Blue Moonshine, Sweet Pink Grapefruit, and Orange Apollo.

I also agree with SOTF420 that taking periodic breaks are beneficial.

I have to say NYCD too, very positive and clear high, only downside is that it doesn't last too long. Apollo 13 might be good too but hard to find.

I like indicas, Black Domina and Mr Nice being probably my favourites, and they have helped me through some pretty rough times. Both work very well for physical pain too, but these can make you feel pretty burned out if smoked 24/7.

Some NYCD phenos can have a trippy aspect and I miss the calming effect in it. It´s a up high but there are better anti-depression strains in my point of view. Blueberry makes me feel more comfortable, but it can give you a lethargic hangover.... I read, that Ice cream from paradise seeds is supposed to help with depression, but I haven´t tried it personally. I´m going to try strawberry cough the next run and I will post my expierience with it. Also heard a lot of good things about dj short gear, esp. FLo.

Peace Ace

Really, this is so wierd...
I have spent the past week making posts on different forums like this one, asking for info on strains that are good for depression.

I'm still looking... good luck to both of us!

SOTF - man that looks like some bomb herb! I don't have the cash to spend on it right now otherwise I'd be all over it.

subrob - thanks man, I'd seen you posting about AW for a while but wasn't sure about the high, I take it it's a happy sativa type? i'll be seeing APE once I get some funds together so I'll be sure to pick that one up. word on staying off the pills too! i'd like to have my liver by the time I'm 60 thanks.

Blueberry has worked until the come down :( seems like once the plateau is gone it takes a downward turn for me.. maybe it was just the pheno I smoked? I'm gonna try and get some DJ gear this year for sure, his stuff seems to do very well with depressive/bipolar types.

going through this combined with fibromyalgia, think indicas and kush's especially are great for pain
but for depression i would lean towards uplifting sativas, original haze, kalimist, look into ace's haze collection

I have the same problems with depression bro. Know how you feel. I like realy nice 60/40 sat crosses. Something to give me some pep without grounding me. Island sweet skunk, Hawiian Sativa, Ice Princess are all very good antidepresents for me. Kali mist works great too. The most important thing is to try and surround yourself with as much positivity as possible.

Guys while I am the first to espouse the benefits of cannabis I can tell you that it will not help aliviate the issues from depression and/or too much MDMA. These are serious conditions that simply medicating with herb will not help with. While they may take you to a diff space for a short time they wont help in the long run and in many cases could work against any meds your doc has prescribed for you. Now before folks start trolling and getin flamerific with me, understand you are talking to a gulf war vet with MH issues of his own and CPS social worker who deals with medicated people, medications, symptoms, and side efeects on a daily basis. Just trying to help and good luck to you.

imo using pot regularly to the point where you are dependent on it, "medically" or not, is going to have a marked negative effect on a person who is already in a depressive state. Yes, different strains have different effects, but in general I feel that cannabis is not really a proper medication for that particular condition.

this is true for myself and countless others I know who are actually willing and able to objectively look at their relationship with herb and realize that it is not all good, just like any other mind-altering substance.

just my 2p's

I have to strongly disagree with the last 2 posts. Ganja has been a lifesaver for me as far as depression goes! Ive tried the nasty medications main stream medicine offers for this and I can honestly say nothing brightens my day like cannabis. I guess its all subjective [diferent strokes for different folks] but for me cannabis takes me out of a dark place and into the light.

There's more to my argument but I'll save it for when I've got a clearer head. You're absolutely right though, it's wholly subjective when it comes right down to it. I have simply seen so many friends/family members with the same issues have the same results despite years of trying different strains that I tend to believe in what I know to be the case. peace man

It really all comes down to what you are smoking, different chemical components = different effects on the user. It's all in finding the right type of strain for certain. You wouldn't take an antibiotic for anxiety or take an aspirin for depression. For depression & anxiety you need the right medicine to treat it. :joint:

I have PTSD and I got off seroquel with herb. I think certain strains of cannabis are fantastic anti depressants and are far more affective and safer than anything a doctor will prescribe for you. Try some A11 and go for a long walk in the woods away from all the noise and you'll be on the right path. Pharmaceuticals have their place if you need to break a nasty cycle but you should not stay on them. Cannabis is far superior. Over the years I have been on over 90 different meds and cannabis is the clear winner, allows me to take care of me instead of pills that can only be a band aide at best.
