Flat and wide vs regular pot shape

How does our beloved plants grow in a flat and wide pot/tray? A 60x60x10cm give room for 36 liters, a 30x30 need to be 40cm tall to get the same volume.
And it doesent have to be 10cm, 20 cm tall will be fine, and 72 liters ;)

Will they thrive?

Comfortably numb!
other than shallow pots dry MUCH faster (greater surface area), they should be fine. An added bonus! Very difficult to overwater :tiphat:

Those pots are measured in cubic yards/meters!

The plants appear to be 8 to 12 ft tall (2-3 meters).
And Switcher has it right...

IMO:

If you use a HEAVY soil the wider containers will work better. More surface area will allow better air penetration to the rhizosphere.

If you use a light soil the taller narrower containers seem to work better because they'll retain a little bit more moisture.
