If you want to pay $200 for a dvd collection, I'd recommend spending it on porn.
Otherwise, find a set of 5-50 dumbells (not those shitty Bowflex adjustables) and a bench on craigslist for $200 and avoid the hype.
P90X is the Bose of fitness.
Oooooh, shiny.

It works if you like a dude talking you through exercising and wanna follow a really specific diet.

Really though, everything you need to get cut and built you can learn there for free... Get you some used dumbbells and a pull-up bar, and you'll have everything you need to change your physique however you see fit.

you can find p90x on craigslist all day long for 1/10th the price if u really want to get into that.

....a better idea is to just "lace up", open your front door, and hit the road....or jump on a bike.

I got dumbbells and a bench and all that but beyond lifting I don't know anything about nutrition or regimens to cut areas and build others. My boy is on his 3rd phase and he went from 150 to 180 and is looking beast.

I have seen the infomercial many times.

In the 90's we called it circuit training. Save your scrilla.

Happy that you want to be active.

I mean when it comes to core strength - im there. I get friends who look cut - but i outlift them all day. and since i live up in the hills its easier for me to get a dvd i can watch that will show me how to work areas and provide regiment. because just lifting weights and doing chin ups and push ups just aint doing it.

I don't know anything personally about it, but a friend of mine is all into that...and he has got cut as fuck in the last 4 or 5 months!!
As for weight training...remember, if you want to get cut with weights, do lighter weight, with long sets and reps-- At least 20 reps per set, 10 to 15 sets--
Good luck man-- :tiphat:

P90X works great!!!

did it a few years ago, before i started lifting and i must say, its damn intense....

can be a bit overwhelming at first, if you haven't exercised in years and try this, your going to have some problems....

Had a few friends try it, and It will wear your ass out. You have to mentally & physically prepared for something like that. It works tho. You'll be working out muscles that you didnt know you had>>

Not to knock you, buddy so don't take it that way. This isn't true. Getting "cut" comes from diet and/or drugs. When you see guys in fitness magazines that are ripped as compared to huge guys in bodybuilding magazines, the only difference between the 2 is their drug dosages and overall calories.
BHT, any exercise regimen works as long as you're consistent. That's the key. Be realistic about your goals and stick with it. As PTB pointed out, you don't even have to torrent these videos, just do a google video search and you should find all of them.
As for diet, there are free online programs that will help you figure out your daily needs. Here's a trick: If you're looking to be lean with an athletic physique and not too heavily-muscled, eat your daily kcals in a ratio of Protein/Carbs/fat at 40/40/20. If you want more lean mass, use the ratio 60/30/10. There are many ways to skin a cat but these work exceedingly well for me and the people I've trained. Also, google "Intermittent Fasting" for fat loss and overall health. I'll be eating this way for as long as I have control over my diet. If you need any help or insight or suggestions, please feel free to PM me. Good luck and give it hell!

No prob man...I am always eager to learn!!
I only got my knowledge from years on the prison iron-pile...no drugs...chow hall for carbs!! lol
I have been out for about 16 years now, and don't look much like I've ever lifted a weight!! At 51, I smoke and drink too much...but the day of "quitting" is coming, and gonna get back to getting in shape-- :tiphat:

**EDIT
Actually, after re-reading your comment...I will have to disagree with at least part of your comment--
Doing the drugs (roids and aminos, I'm guessing) CAN be a huge help...but it is not the only way-- Doing high rep counts with weights burns a lot more calories...and ads definition to the muscle--

Ive never tried it, but always been intrigued.

I been foolin around again lately, and as soon as i plateau again, i will be giving p90x a chance.

Can anyone speak to this aspect of p90x? Part of working out, and the "plateau / losing of sizable returns" is the repetitiveness (IE if all you do is hammer curls, youre only building those specific muscles).

I realize its a video, and that will obviously get repetitive, but how much muscle 'confusion' do they teach?

I figure 90 days cant be too repetitive....

[tangent] I went to school with a kid who could bench over 200lb, but couldnt curl a 45lb bar.

Dont forget your legs and back.

My two roommates did insanity. 1 (good build, in shape) got ripped and the other (slight fatty) lost about 30 lbs. They did two cycles (IIRC, insanity is 60 days)...60 days, took a week break, then started all over again.

For this, or P90x to work, you must 1) do it every day and 2) eat right. You have to discipline yourself and stick to a schedule if you want to see results. Be prepared to eat a lot of tuna, veggies, and chocolate milk.

Insanity and P90x are great for getting in shape (cardio), building your core, losing weight, and cutting down your body fat %. If your goal is to gain muscle mass... you're better off in the gym doing high weight, low reps, and eating as many calories as you can.

The hardest part is getting yourself to do it everyday. It's hard. No shit. You won't want to do the second day, but you have to. That's the only way you'll see results at the end of it. You can't do day 1 on monday, then day 2 on thursday, day 3 on friday, and day 4 on tuesday the following week.

Lifting heavier weights will always use more calories and muscle recruitment than lifting lighter weights. Think about it; that's why bodybuilders going into competition will use diuretics, fat-burners, lower their sodium, increase cardio (or add it in) and lower overall calories. Sure, they use lightER weights but that is mainly due to being weaker from depletion. I'm not saying anyone here is trying to be a bodybuilder, but there is a reason why they do it the way they do. But it's cool to disagree! Like I said, there are many ways to skin a cat. But so you know, I do incorporate sets in the way of 25 reps at the end of all of my compound movements as well as alternating heavy and light days from time to time. :)
