from my experience, i can say that i'm more concerned about raccoon and coyote, etc...

they tend to dig stuff up like blood/fish meals. we don't really have that much of a black bear presence here, but there are a few. i will tell you however that some animals will dig thru your soil just because it looks/smells newly disturbed. for this reason i would recommend amending all holes at least 30 days before planting.
