Hey all, this is my first grow log here but I've been lurking and reading a lot as well as doing a bit of posting this past few months. I am also on stainly as TheSearch and am on Future 4200 as peasandlovage. I live in BC Canada and am a licensed medical grower for personal use with a 50 plant license currently. I have a very deep appreciation for cannabis and have spent the last 15 years working with cannabis and deeply researching it for even longer. I greatly enjoy discussions of flavour and smell elements (terpenes, flavonols, esters, and the search for the skunk funk/thiols), the ancient (religious, recreational, medical) and recent (law etc.) history, strain histories (lineages, progressions, background stories and legends), medical applications and studies, etc. etc. I am also very interested in learning more about growing as I this will only be my second indoor grow from start to finish, so feel free to give advice or recommendations!

Without more ado, let's get on to what everyone is here to read.

I am starting this grow mainly to find some mothers to keep, but also to be selecting for breeding. My main lofty goals are to make a new improved version of orange crush (cali-o x blueberry) and a regen of Love Potion ([Santa Marta Colombian Gold x G13]x SMCG) but I'm also just trying to set up my favourite strains to smoke.
I just germinated and planted in Solo cups 2 Deep Cheese fem from Dinafem (33% germ rate) and 3 Philly Gold regs (100% germ) but less then a week ago I also started 6 Zamaldelica regs from ACE (100% germ) 3 Tangie regs from Crockett's farm (50% germ rate but got them pick and mix from attitude seedbank) 1 Barney's Farm Pink Kush fem (100% germ) 2 Choco Candy regs from greenbud (100% germ) and a couple weeks before that I started a white cookies bagseed, a Monster Cookies/Cookie Monster bagseed (honestly not sure which one but was some of the stinkiest strongest kush available) and 5 Super Silver Haze x Love potion reg seeds I was gifted from the UK by a member here.(Blessss!!!)
Wish me luck! I know they are all started at different times but since they are for mothers I'm not too worried.

Any questions, let me know!

Grow equipment:
-Fusion hut 5' x 5' x 6.5' 600d tent
(Light leaks at all stitching and in several places at zippers, messy stitching in places punching holes in the tent etc but is sturdy and has a tray, good for a veg tent, not flower)
-Fusion bright double ended 1000w hps/MH wing reflector kit with upgraded 110khz high frequency ballast (this thing is a champ though I hate that the metal halides are cased in UV blocking quartz glass. Besides that it has no fan so no noise, is dialable from 600-1100w and was a great price for the kit)
-ac infinity cloudline t6 (very silent except the sound of the rushing air, energy efficient and truly dialable, powerful draw, comes with a monitor which can be programmed to automatically adjust to temperature and humidity)
-destiny organics 'dark matter' super soil (Coconut Coir, Peat Moss, Worm Castings, Perlite, Class A Organic Compost, Alfalfa Meal, Basalt Rock Dust, Blood Meal, Feather Meal, Fishbone Meal, Glacial Rock Dust, Greensand, Gypsum, Insect Frass, Kelp Meal, Limestone Flour, Mineralized Phosphate, Oyster Shell Flour, Potassium Sulfate, Rock Phosphate)
-water is all spring water ATM
All other equipment will be listed as it is added.

1st picture is a SSH x LP with an eager extra leaflet on its first single leaflet leaf.
2. Fused leaf on a white cookies bagseed.
3. Overview of the tent
4. Waiting for them to show their heads!
5. Angling the fan with some catch trays

Updates!

Everything is moving along faster then it's seemed over the last 2 weeks. I'm just about to repot to 2 gallon fabric pots and set up the carbon filter. Only issue is I'm having some sort of pest problem that I can't identify really. It's a bit hard to see in the pictures, but it appears to be either thrip damage (more stripey then I have seen in pictures, but it's the closest) but I have yet to identify one or find one on the one sticky trap I threw in yet. Seems to be mostly affecting two of the tangies and one of the Holy grails, but the one tangie seems the worst, and some of the bigger ones have a few spots, so today the plan is to spray then all with some neem. Any suggestions or insight would be very appreciated.

One of the Philly gold seeds was a mutant and has really weird leaves so far. Looks like a bite taken out but it's just a ripple. They kinda look like lettuce haha. Growing fine so far.

The ssh x Love potion plants all seem to have deep serrations but the one that had the eager extra leaf at the start seems to have such deep serrations that they fold and ripple, with some double serrations. It looks like pictures of some of the Freakshow relative Holy banana x pineapple (berry freak) pics from cannabis_potency_research(on Instagram), but as far as I know have zero common ancestry. Starting to think I'm accidently breeding mutants here? Will pay more attention.

Last thing,
I had a tangerine dream bagseed (keeping a close eye on them all for bananas ?) that I had tried to germinate but didn't mention as it wouldn't crack. It was one of those bigger seeds that must have had a thick shell (they can be hard to pop in the paper towel method from my limited experience) so as a last resort I stuffed it in a deep Cheese cup and it popped. Goes to show that some seeds need different treatment. It's easy to give up and throw them out. So I'm
Doing some extra light stress training to encourage branching for clone production, then gonna tie the big ones down after they get their roots set in the new pots as well.
Thanks for reading, wish me luck and feel free to chime in with the thrip stuff.

Updates

Couple quick updates now!
Things started to get stinky so I set up my carbon filter, all plants are now up-potted to their 1.5-2 gallon homes (any mothers I choose still in a plastic pot will have to be repotted to fabric)
A couple of the biggest plants (most of the SSH x LP, the one white cookies and one zamaldelica) started to have their lower leaves yellow out, seems like magnesium deficiency but I'm assuming that was from a bit of rootboundness or just lack of nutrients from being in the Dixie cups and not being watered enough (I'm trying to keep them a bit bonzai'd) since repotting and watering they seem to not be getting worse and growing like crazy.

Got some Miicrobial Mass in the mail today that they just got watered with along with the distilled water with glacial rock dust for minerals also. They are giving free samples if you pay shipping right now and is basically a microbial mix for making minerals bioavailable and generally enhancing the health of the soil and plant. We'll see if it helps also.

Also got some more ACE seeds today in the mail. Considering popping a couple to do breeding work with but not sure there is enough room left in my tent ? haha
Got 2 Golden Tiger fems, 3 super Malawi haze fems and 3 regular Panamas. Was thinking of hitting the Panama to the SSH x LP to bring it back to the piney lemon side. May want to grow those just to get some pollen in time. The other two I am very anxious to grow but will be able to hit them with pollen later also.

Any tips or anything from people is always helpful! Happy growing everyone!

Do you buy your seeds from different seeds banks or is there a Canadian one you like using?

I wish I had a preferred canadian site to use, unfortunately I'm a cheap bastard and like to buy singles when I can. For that reason I used attitude from the uk, which turned out amazing except that my tangie singles (I bought six) had a 50% germination rate and they will not even discuss germination if you attempt. I dont really care as long as I get one male and one female, so I didnt try wording it different, but have considered the phrasings of "they were too old to be of value".
I also ordered off ACE and those seeds took over 2 months to arrive from Spain since Covid stuff over there really put a wrench in things. Also I recommend requesting a different mailing service from them as their tracking ends at the spanish border. Otherwise its good to buy straight from the breeder when possible and they threw in some stickers and a catalogue, kinda nice.
There is one phenomenal seedbank in canada that I highly recommend but you must have somewhere to sell them from, and in the interest of not blowing up their services, will not say on a public thread, but it is possible to buy single packs (from the breeders, in their packaging) at half the retail price and no risk of customs seizure.
All this said, my next seed purchases are probably going to be from real gorilla seeds mostly as they have really good prices, unique selection and some really cheap fire from their house brand. plus they are a sponsor here! seedsman is also on my list. if you know what seeds you are looking for I could recommend canadian or otherwise on that too.

Looking forward to the grow. That's a lot of plants in a 5 x 5 . . . I just had 2 plants overpower my 4 x 4 x 8! I have grown the Barney's PK & it should be a solid plant. My next up - in late Sept - will be Zams, so I will watch your's with interest. :rasta:

So some major updates on this, long story short my housing situation is having to change and I am going to have to move my plants to a greenhouse for flowering. Not my original intentions and it seems I wont be able to keep any mothers, which is a bit of a wrench in my plans to say the least, but not game over. They are definitely overcrowded though as I have seen this coming over the last few weeks and basically just been put in limbo with my plans.

I will be growing out the males in a seperate area and will be collecting pollen for breeding and will work with what I have in that regard to best finish what I've started and continue lineages. pictures of the greenhouse will come soon.

For now, this is what they look like, at a height of around 5 feet from the bottom of the pot. Pictured individually is one of the holy grail kushes.

If anyone has any questions about how different strains are growing etc. feel free to ask away!

Easy the search. Nice selections. I grew some Holy grail only a couple seeds recently. I found 1 hay variety :) but the other was quite unusual, atrong growth, expected stretch, good yielder, bright pink calyx of about 10% in each flower, however the flavour was dairy tasting like a mature cheddar cheese. The taste wasnt for me and she got binned.
Look forward to what you can find :)

I have heard some searching can be needed for a winning pheno, I'm hoping for one to breed with now, but my experience with smoking it has consistently been it as one of the steongest strains I can smoke, putting me in a foggy indica narcoleptic time bomb, and is usually quite pungent with a plasticine/floral to lemon og flavour. hoping for something like that.

here's some pics of a cookie monster plant that has some crazy streamlined branches from the overcrowding:

Pulling up a seat. I'd also love to know this Canadian Seedbank at half retail prices.

I have a similar set up and sorry to hear of the living arrangements, hopefully you can still pull off a harvest.

For CDN seedbanks, I have ordered from hemp depot and I hear good things about therealcanadaseeds.

Cheers
