Newegg.com, probably anything with an ASUS mobo would be my recommendation.

computer geeks is better than new egg. especially if you're going to go refurbished geeks.com is the way to go

also don't bother buying anything slower that 3 Gigahertz and two gigs RAM

I recently purchased a refurbished gateway from geeks. Its a core i3 at 3.06 GHZ and 4 gigs ram for $350 and free shipping. It was still factory packed and looks brand spanking new to me.

Also HDMI is the com port of the future, IMO

laptops are popular, but unless you're regularly going mobile with it, a destop is a better value

plus there are other smaller machines that are better for mobility such as netbooks and smart phone

wallmart has some pretty good HP laptops for around 300. They're good enough for porn, interwebs, photo shop and basic games. I abuse the hell out of my laptops and put like 5000 hrs on them a year lol. The cheap prices make they easy to throw away without feeling bad.

Looks nice, but I wouldn't buy anything like this, you're paying so much for the "Beats" brand. I just had a look at the prices and you could buy a slick black macbook for the same price and last forever ;) (as contradictory as that sounds, as you're paying for the Apple too :p)

Does look nice though.

OP, definitely go for a desktop if you're not planning on moving around with it. I'd check some barebone systems and consider building it yourself. This can save money and get a better PC in the long run. :tiphat:

-No Gateway/emachines<--same machine, poor build quality overall but mostly premature PS and motherboard failure.
-Dell is ok but sometimes there connectors are proprietary making replacement of certain components a pain if the need ever arises.
-hp/Compaq are pretty sturdy for the most part with Compaq being like the budget brand of hp.
-Acer's I can't remeber who owns them but from my experience they give more problems from the bios than with anything, laptops anyway, haven't run across any desktops.
-Sony's are too expensive for what you get.
-Apple probably not in the budget.

Of the major brands purchased through big name retailers, I would probably go with hp if budget allowed.

Good deals can be found on the net as mentioned here already especially if you're willing to build your own.
