Vertical first attempt

Looking great, Aerohead. I know you're gonna hate thinning the canopy but you'll like the results. You'll still have the same amount of roots. :bigeye:

Thanks DB, I can use all the encouragement I can get right now, so hard to chop off those branches. This time I will not freeze with scissors in hand and decide to do it later.

I am about to go chopping, post pics after work is finished..

Aero i know how you feel about trimming lol

when i first told my gardener to trim, hes afraid hes going to hurt the ladies by doing so, i told him hes only making them stronger if he trims

first run with vertical, i tried to train and train most of the back branches to hit the front, well most of them did but the result were less impressive then the 2nd round when i take them off right in the begining, the front branches stack much more weight with in the 3rd 4 weeks

you will also notice once you dont have back branches, most of you nugs will be identical or the same size ( if you get this you're on the right track )

dont be afraid, what doesnt kill you ladies only make them stronger :D

cheers bro

btw you're running hydro, there is NO reason to be afraid of trimming, you aint gonna be able to slow these ladies down once you hit the switch.

so yeah go ahead and get happy with you scissors ( personally i love using my fingers when i trim ;) )

OK, I trimmed for quite some time last night. It was hard because I am used to sog with little to no veg, these bushes are totally different. Something just feels wrong about removing buckets full of healthy growth. I am sure I will get used to it and after this run, I will see what everyone is talking about.

Here is a critical mass bush before and after the trim, I pretty much just cut the plants in half... I already see a few branches I missed in the pics, I will revisit them and give a final trim..

yeah thats good work aero,,, keep the back in check and you'll be happy with the results

cheers

Awesome work aero.
We're going to miss you in the micro forum. Stepping up to the 1gpw big boys, eh?
How are your res/bucket temps using the black buckets? It seems like they would absorb more IR than with a white or Reflectix coated bucket.

Thanks Sgt, I will be back in the micro forum, cleaning up a spot for another aero PC run, I still want to play with that PC lol..

The res temps suprise me, the buckets aways feel cold to the touch. The room runs between 72 and 78F, the res runs around 68F and 72F is the warmest I have seen it.

This is with lights on 24/7, I will be flowering soon and expect the 12hrs of lights off to bring the res down to the 60's.

You may already do this but lights on at night may narrow the temp differential.

Nothing wrong with being cautious, even nervous about trimming. I bet you tossed lots of plant material but you'll have net gain in buds.

I had to learn the hard way. It's not only light penetration that helps, pre-exhaust air circulation makes a big difference. Outdoors, mild wind is enough to satiate your plant's needs. Indoors, big honkin' fan leaves act like brakes to air-flow. Even robust fans are less comp to outdoor air-flow when the canopy extends to the periphery of your tent. If the canopy is too thick, (especially) indoor air-flow will take the path of least resistance, not necessarily where circulation is most needed.

Thanks DB, yes I am going to flower at night so I don't have problems when it starts to warm up here.

Wow did I ever toss alot of plant material, it was kinda sad, especially all of the potential clones I tossed knowing they should have been given away. I didn't take any clones this round because I already have rooted mums from the last pruning.

That's some good info you passed on about the fan leaves restricting air movement in the room, honestly never thought about it but it makes good sense...

Thanks Pine boy!!

I have another developement in the grow, I originally thought I had 3 X Critical Mass and 3X Romberry. While pruning, I noticed one of my Romberry plants smelled much different and I had suspected the growth pattern to be slightly different than her sisters. Thought it could have been a clone from a different pheno or too early to tell.

Anyway, while pruning, I was certain this one plant was different than the rest even though it does look and grow alot like her sisters. So, I took a large cutting of it to the guy I got them from and asked him if he had any ideas.

He answered without hesitation that it was infact GDP, he realized his mistake shortly after I left and attempted to call me but the ph# I left him was no good. Ofcourse the phone number I left was no good..lol

In a way, I am a little bummed because I didn't want a multi strain grow in the first place and reluctantly accepted two. The results in veg have been very good so far and at least now I know I'm not crazy for thinkin that lady wasn't what I thought she was (this has happened before)

So moving clockwise plant at 12:00 is CM, then GDP, CM, RB, CM, RB

Mono cropping is certainly easier than 3 dif strains in a rdwc, but variety is the spice of life and a good GDP is heaven! Maybe you should make a mom of the GDP as well?

Yeah I saw krunchbubble's GDP op, that dude knows his chit. I think krunch said GDP might be his first strain to go 2 lbs per 1k.

Hydrosun, good point, I do welcome the variety of this run and it will give me a chance to see more strains in a vertical grow. I certainly did take a cutting of the GDP to save for later runs..

Hey DB, that's great news about the yield of GDP, I can see by looking at this plant in veg, it may outproduce the others. It's a beast!!

I removed all the ladies to trim some fan leaves, clean the air stones and buckets, and get bloom nutes in the system... I am going to flip them today..... Looking at the root mass, they are ready..

I took some pics while they were out of the room, The first pic is of the (now known) GDP bush.

Here is the back side of a Romberry bush.

Critical Mass bush.
