Different design, and Fieldpiece is known for quality equipment.

Welcome to the Recovery Revolution
The Fieldpiece MR45 Recovery unit just changed the face of recovery with its advanced features, speed and light weight design.
The MR45 is the first variable speed DC motor machine with a digital display. Pump refrigerant easier and quieter than ever before. Connect your hoses without navigating around dark tight spaces or picking the pump off the ground. View status messages and pressures directly on the big bright display. Carry the machine to and from the job site easily and well protected from environmental hazards. Turn the single rubberized control valve to route refrigerant through MR45, and use the self-purge function to pump the last traces into the recovery cylinder instead of being left in the machine or released into the environment.

The Fieldpiece MR45 Recovery unit just changed the face of recovery with its advanced features, speed and light weight design. The Fieldpiece MR45 has onboard system monitoring that adjusts the Variable Smart Speed 1 HP motor performance to handle liquid and run twice as fast on vapor, up to 3000 rpm. MR45 also steps up low voltage at the power plug to deliver full power to the motor where high voltage drop is a problem. With a powerful 1HP motor and super-sized condenser, this machine excels on longer and hotter jobs. The easy-to-read display, lightweight (22lbs), straight hose connection ports, and single dial make this machine user-friendly while being tough enough for everyday use, even in the rain.

Advanced features include; A Variable Smart Speed 1 HP motor, Twin Cylinder recovery compressor, Extra large Micro Channel Condenser cools faster, especially on hot days, Easy access 1/4" flare inlet & outlet ports, Long life and low friction with ceramic cylinders, Twin cylinder reciprocating (oil-less) Compressor, Easy hose connections and built in power cord storage, Large backlit display with status messages, Advanced circuitry protects from voltage drop (runs as low as 95 VAC), Single dial self purge control, Weighs Only 22 lbs, Twice the RPMs (3,000) and twice the horsepower (1HP) with DC Motor, Water resistance to withstand direct rain.

I called Fieldpiece. It's only been available for a year, rebuild kits should eventually be available. As far as the tech department supervisor knows it's a brushless DC motor (no sparking commutator,) but you'd have to get in contact with one of their engineers for verification.

Fieldpiece MR45 recovery pump page at their site,

Official video (there are many Fieldpiece MR45 review videos at YouTube,)

pump motor
If I was going to try and power something like the Haskel with an electric motor with something near off the shelf, a high torque low rpm BLDC motor would be my first choice as I'm aware of some doozies from a previous run in with the importer. Talk about a love/hate relationship...they were also importing high density lithium battery packs without BMS that were exploding! lol...

This is the commercial unit I'd be looking at, but with a high retail mark up to be expected,
https://www.electricrider.com/collections/electric-bike-kits/Phoenix-II-Electric-Bike-Kits

Joshua Goldberg up in Canada was the original discoverer/importer of Crystalyte motors, he may have passed on by now... but a US friend of his can get what you want from Kenny at Crystalyte in China.

https://crystalyte.us

These motors can be way overvolted, as recall they were getting away with 96v on 24v windings...

ROBUST SHIT!

It's getting the Chinese to understand the controllers need to be bulletproof that's the hard part, it's been over a dozen years since I was posting up at Power Assist so maybe Kenny finally got the point...

Best, John

Did you buy this? Have you used it? If so, for how long? I ask because I see that it is not approved for R600, or any other LPG. How long before solvent makes its way past the cylinder rings? How can they stay lubricated? Physics dictates the need for some amount of space between the piston and the cylinder walls and butane molecules are pretty small. How can it not leak... eventually... at least some, no? I am currently looking for a recovery machine. So far it appears as though the CPS TRS21 is the frontrunner. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

Hi, I didn't get answers to two questions concerning the Fieldpiece MR45 yesterday over the phone, here they are again:

1) What is the current and future availability of rebuild parts/kits? (compressor parts - seals, pistons, bearings, etc.)

2) Is the DC motor brushless?

Best,

John,

Sorry for the very late response, I didn’t have the information available at the time and had to get in contact with my manager.

1) We will have replacement kits avalible in the future (estimated 3 months)
2) The DC motor is indeed brushless.

It doesn't even have mechanical power switch to spark, you plug it in, and then it's low voltage hermetically sealed (they claim the unit is water proof) microprocessor control to the also sealed inverter/DC power controller feeding the sparkless BLDC motor. Zero ignition points as far as I can figure.

Next, are the seals and bearings up to LPG? Were the seals and bearings a problem with the Appions and other units first employed??

It could be the simple reason Fieldpiece doesn't rate it for hydrocarbons is the added hassle/responsibility for little gain, at least as far as they are concerned. If you want to buy a unit, and use it beyond the written specs, they'll sell you replacement/rebuild parts, and that's it. $750 gets you a recovery pump with SOTA BLDC motor drive, and possibly improved condenser design, let's hope they don't overcharge for the rebuild kits.

Good choice from what I've read, and others seem to agree as there are minor to major rebuild parts kits available for it from multiple sources.
