had parakeets & budgies as a kid. always wanted a free-ranging crow as a pet. falconry looks cool as hell, but that takes some serious dedication to get into, literally YEARS of helping another falconer care for his birds as an apprentice before you can cature your first bird from the wild. you read that right, you can't buy a raptor to start...:tiphat:
This is too much a coincidence. My cousins were falconers, had red tails. They also had a free range crow that hung around their place as a pet. That crow was smart as hell, could talk and all.

I like birds.

My backyard sounds like a Disney movie from sun up to sunset but after dark...... those bastard night flyers come out! Flying crazily through the night sky. With their leather jackets and clicky sounds.

I HATE BATS!

Way more than Ace Ventura!lol

I know that bats aren't birds and dolphins ain't fish..... semantics!haha

On a side note..... years ago when Busch Gardens closed they released all the parrots that were kept in an aviary I presume. I was too young to remember. But they have been flying around the valley for years. Living on the fruit trees in people's backyards. They fly off but return every summer. The flock or "pandemonium" of parrots is quite large.

I found a baby bird laying on the pavement next to the Safeway building.

No feathers. Might have been a pigeon.

It was dead but not mangled.

Something I don't often consider when picking birds is their color relative to how hot they will be.

Black is not a great option for hot climates ... but some of the best birds have black feathers !

Of course White birds are cool too ... got some White Silkies about 6 weeks old. Once I let them free range, there's nothing protecting them from White Terror ... a 6 month old White Sex Link rooster that is a TOTAL PECKER.

When you think of it, about 1% of the English language comes from chicken terms ... kick your heels up, ruffle your feathers, the term 'pecker'.

Anyway, the white rooster pecks the hens right on top of their back - to hold them down - then jumps on top. He pecks everything.

I have a neighbor that has peafowl. Well not really an immediate neighbor, he’s about 1/4 to 1/2 mile away and raises horses. Those damn peacocks have been really annoying lately, calling in the very early morning, like there's a jungle movie playing. It’s really bad if the wind’s in the direction to carry them. Beautiful birds but I really feel sorry for the people living on either side of him. Much worse than roosters.

love hummingbirds. i keep feeders out until November because they have learned that juveniles sometimes don't try to migrate until October or so, and feeders still out can make the difference...

had a neighbor with pet peacock yeares ago. he was an Dr. in local hospital. he injected saline solution into its vocal cords, all he could do was "squeak" at a low volume. it spent hours every day pecking at his reflection in my girlfriends cars hubcaps...
