Is Polyploid Cannabis the same as GMO Cannabis?

Experts say it is.
A lot of todays strains have polyploids in the family tree,it's just not mentioned or possibly known by seed houses,as colchicine's heyday was from the mid 70's to the mid 80's.

The most potent forms of marijuana are modified by a primitive genetic modification technique which involves soaking the seeds in colchicine—a carcinogenic derivative of crocus bulbs--until the DNA doubles (or even quadruples) which in turn doubles or quadruples the production of THC.

Anti-GMO bills threaten ‘Maui gold’ marijuana growers with up to $25,000 per day fine
Andrew Walden | Hawaii Free Press | December 11, 2013

If Maui County follows the trend of anti-GMO legislation that is sweeping across Hawaii, marijuana growers will be vulnerable to strict new penalties. The most potent strains of marijuana grown in Hawaii are bred using a technique called “genome doubling,” which, under the Kauai’s recently passed law, is identified as a type of genetic modification. Marijuana growers, just like any farmers growing GM crops, will be forced to register exactly what they are growing and where, or face civil fines up to $25,000 per day, per violation. Failing to register within sixty days after the end of the previous year could lead to jail time.

For police departments and prosecutors, “the challenge will be distinguishing genetically modified marijuana while in the field.” Information online about strains of marijuana grown in Hawaii, which come from Canada, provides authorities with “a handy way to identify suspected GM strains of marijuana in the field.” Fines could then be calculated based on expert testimony about the age the plant, racking up between $400,000 and $1,000,000 for a single mature 40-day old plant.

Is there is examples in numbers or study, and what strains are colchicine manipulated
so they know this is true??

Buddha Seeds has recently been playing with polyploids.
They even created a thread about it:
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=296131
(It's a very interesting and detailed thread with authentic pictures.)

I pm'ed them a few years ago to ask for an update. IIRC they replied that they abandoned the project.

Also the Skunkman and several other well know and respected breeders have toyed with it in the past.

@Op, the picture you posted is indeed not a polyploid, it's just a natural mutation.
Polyploidism is barely visible to the naked eye. It requires microscopic lab analyse to confirm.
In this post is a side by side picture of a regular plant and a authentic polyploid plant.

This whole article sounds straight up from The Onion or CNN.

I see scare tactics from the author!!!

BREEDING, in general, is genetic modification...
Manipulating genes via mutagens also modifies genes...

adding genes from another plant is transgenic genetic modification...

What's with the alarm bells this time?
I don't see an issue with using mutagens!
Everybody LOVES BLUEBERRY!

Most folks will NEVER know if they EVER grow a polyploid individual anyway.
The ONLY way to find ploidy is via DNA testing and that shit is expensive as fuck!
I can guarantee that the cops aren't going to try and find these types of plants! that kind of work is out of their scope and out of their league. Most cops are dumb as fuck! They don't even know the law!
