Recently had this idea ,but don't know if it would work based on biodegradability and other factors. What if you were to grow your own loofah then use the cut up and dried pieces as aeration? Anybody think this would actually work or is just another one of my stupid thoughts? I'm going to try it next season

germinated tomato seeds in pieces of loofah to the grand kids amazement yrs back .
IIRC the sponge was well degraded at season end outside
might be different inside with less environmental factors
let us know what you find out
