Question About Aceton

Eeew, acetone? I wouldn't want to risk ingesting any residual acetone, pure or otherwise. Ethanol like Everclear sounds the safest to consume in my opinion. If it isn't safe to consume I'd prefer to leave it out of my medz.

I would rather extract straight into something like coconut or olive oil to make tincture if ethanol wasn't an option. No solvent to evap, and it's already ready to go into your food or under your tongue.

I'd be careful with that stuff stuff. It's a carcinogen. Why don't you make your RSO with alcohol?

Thanks, I tried to find some locally seems there is no Everclear here. I'll try a local lab to see if they can provide it.

Thanks, ill go that route.

Beauty Secrets MSDS sheet for their "pure" acetone shows it to contain Benzene, a known carcinogen. https://bigcatrescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Beauty-Secrets-Acetone.pdf

I always appreciate your input, you help me out so much.

Question

Aceton - Would you use lab-grade? that they specifically say for oil extraction?

Ethanol - Is this the safest and best method? - from what I'm reading this seems to be the safest?

isopropyl alcohol - Thoughts?

Thanks, everyone for your input and for helping me with my safety

You're exhaling some and metabolizing some as you read this.

The OSHA limit for both is 1000 ppm. Your food and drink is full of chemicals far worse than acetone and other ketones. Fear of acetone is near the definition of chemophobia.

shows it to contain Benzene

Shows it to contain less than 30 ppm benzene, which means 0-29 ppm. There are better grades than nail polish remover grade, guaranteed less than 2 ppm. Obviously if it was 29 ppm, used to extract, and evaporated to 1000 ppm residual solvent, the level would now be 29 ppb - less than many foods.

Okay now im very confused lol. I dont want to buy and waste my money.

Here are a few things

Everclear - https://liquorlodge.ca/products/everclear-190-proof-grain-alcohol
200 proof - https://www.laballey.com/products/b...roof-100-non-denatured-acs-usp-grade-tax-paid
Lab Grade Aceton - https://www.laballey.com/products/acetone-acs
IS 99.8% - https://www.laballey.com/products/isopropyl-99-9-4-liters-62-fast-shipping-industrial-solvent

let me just post the full list that they recommend - https://www.laballey.com/collections/best-solvents-for-plant-extraction-in-usa

I would really appreciate it before I buy today the best one to buy with the best yield and medical extraction(cancer).

I had a friend that use to use acetone for extraction, it tasted like shit, nothing like ethanol extraction. He didn’t have any equipment, like vacuum ovens he just boiled it off, the same with ethanol, just boiled off. So that alone made me never use acetone, drinkable alcohol sounds like a better choice, not that you can drink pure everclear but you could dilute it and drink it.

When I've used Acetone, I used a HPLC grade, but I typically use ethanol instead.

I would use Isopropyl in a pinch, but choose ethanol given the choice.
