While researching CBD oral dosing, I read a few research papers that don't look good at all:
From "Pharmacokinetics of cannabidiol in dogs", Samara E, Bialer M, Mechoulam R.

After 6 dogs were given an 180 mg oral dose of CBD, 50% of them had no detectable levels of CBD in their blood. "In the other three, the oral bioavailability ranged from 13 to 19%. The results of this study show that CBD is barely absorbed after oral administration to dogs."

Human subjects given 15 mg tablets of CBD orally had no detectable levels of CBD in their blood.

"Oral bioavailability of CBD is low and ranges from 6% to 33% in humans and dogs, respectively"

"A blood concentration of 10 ng/mL similar to that of Δ9-THC may be considered therapeutic for CBD because both molecules share similar chemical structures and pharmacokinetics. A plasma level of 6–11 ng/mL was achieved in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized crossover trial of oral CBD administration (10 mg/kg/day) for 6 weeks in patients with Huntington disease"
To put that last quote in perspective, a dose of 10 mg/kg/day on a 90 Kg man (~195 lb.) would require an oral dose of 900mg to achieve. If a person is using dried cannabis with a CBD content of 10%, that would be 9 gm of cannabis/day. This also assmes 100% activation of the CBD (never the case), and that the person is eating the herb and not making and consuming oil (resulting in a further yield loss). Furthermore back-calculating the 2nd to last quote, a 900mg oral dose with a bioavailability 6% would be just 54 mg of CBD in the bloodstream.
