Malawi 12/12 from seed

5 reg beans were planted into some beer-cups a few days ago.
all showed their heads today, stay in seedling soil and will be transplanted in plagron batmix (organic-soil) soon.
i´m gonna take great care to elaborate this report..this is my first real sativa grow and i´m looking really forward to this :biggrin:

equip: Gavita 600W HPS, Lucalox 750W HPS, 180W LED panel with 5W diodes, 1500cbm/h Can IsoMax fan, various fans @ 1.2 x 2.4 x 2.0 tent.

ah, sorry i thought i keep it short since i listed my equip already in my other reports :redface:

so, they stay in a 2.4m x 1.2m x 2m (homebox xxl) with a mix from HPS and LED. Gavita 600W HPS, Lucalox 750W HPS, 180W LED panel with 5W diodes. For ventilation i will be using a 1500cbm/h Can IsoMax fan. (atm i have a smaller fan installed, since i´m waiting for my new one..should arrive within next week.)

i´m gonna post some pictures later on!

this is my flower tent atm.

you can see the gavita 600W on the left side, which is the early flower stage and experimental side. as you can see there are a lot of different cultivars inside :biggrin:

after stretching up they move to the right side under the 750W HPS. the LED is in the middle between.
so this is how i do it with the 8-10weeks hybrids. i´m excited if all goes good with the malawis this way, too. but well, in fact, why not..

all the 5 malawis have germed and showing heads. one has still to fight with the seed shell, the reason for the foil on that cup..

day 8 - new fan arrived and installed

day 8 - new fan arrived and installed

finally my new fan has arrived and after 2 exhausting hours everything was installed so far.
It is a CanFan Iso-Max 1500cbm/h + filter. The fan has an implemented muffler, however, i put it inside an additional 315mm sonodec tube.
It is absolutely noiseless and powerfull, all you can hear is the airstream.. i´m able to lower the lamps about 10cm (about 40-50cm to the canopy) now, while the temps stay about 26°C at the tops. no aircooled reflectors, maximum output! i think these african beauties will enjoy it

maybe i´ll put on a metall-discharge UV-B lamp later in flower, heard that notably sativas benefit from it..i´ll kepp you guys on track :tiphat:

edit: wow, the temps stay in fact at room-temp. even 30cm above the tops.

the temps are 18-26°C, the RLH is from 70-40% (night-day)

..transplanted 3 days ago from 0.5L cups into 1.7L deep palm-tree pots.

they stay in seedling soil plus ca. 5cm of a 1:1 mix of seedling soil and batmix on the ground of the pots.
since this is my first 100% sativa grow i am very careful with the nutes, i read that sativas shouldn´t be fed too heavy..
(never wanna risk nute burn again! i had that in the past on two plants and the flavour of the outcome was shit, although the nute-burn appeared only in the first 3 weeks of flower..)

it seems they evolve some deficiencies, as you can see on the erected leaf sides and red petioles.

the temps. are 23-26°C day and 17-20°C at night, RH is about 40-70%.

i gave them about 200mL of 1mL/L BioBizz Grow (NPK 4-3-6) today and will observe it..

having said that, they look pretty nice and start growing fast now!

here we go again

gave them a little bending a few days ago and they seem to like it.

they are extremely vigorous, nice fat stems and the branches are shooting as if they would stay under 18/6 !

..if (at least) two turn out female i´ll be more than satisfied with the seeds..but i´d be happy with a nice male to make some seeds, too

i´m gonna give them bigger pots (at least 6.5L) as soon as they show sex.
then i´ll try to cut back most of the males up to a few lower branches to collect some pollen later on. i´ll kepp you on track with that.

in the next update i will tell you something about the UV-B light i will be using.

i think this run has potential to become one of my best grows so far, since i have the conditions all under controll now and added this baby today :

ps. as you can see it has an internal reflector, nevertheless i will go for an additional external reflector soon...
pps. i need to clean my fan..striking me by viewing the last pic..ups :biggrin:
