Sending humans to mars is a big waste of money. Its pointless unless mars was habitable like earth. That's why we stopped going to the moon their ain't shit for us out their.
It's possible we could possibly terraform mars. It has all the elements we need like carbon dioxide.

There are many nations racing for the moon and space in general. Just because the US ran out of public support and money doesn't mean others aren't trying.
If they weren't, Americans couldn't even get into space. Hitch hiking to the ISS must be humbling.

Mars is the obvious choice for the first human colony outside of Earth. It isn't habitable the way it is. The first colonies will have to be isolated and protected from the natural environment. Terraforming could work, eventually. Mars could have an Earth like environment over time if people living there work for it. A terraformed Mars would be the greatest achievement in human history, if it happens.
SpaceX will be sending American astronauts to the ISS soon. This will be the beginning of a new trend, where private companies will take the lead in space exploration from government agencies like NASA.
