So...how do you go about becoming a tester for some of these breeders?

Support them. Buy their seeds. Start a journal. Post pictures. Be active in their forums.

Show your work! Take pics, do grow journals. They want to see your results, so you gotta show your chops.

Earn a rep by growing plants and doing diarys

After a while you might or might not see a post looking for testers and comment your interest

Show you have the space, skills and discipline to properly grow and document your grows. At this point genetics are not important. If you have a good grow journal of even the shittiest bagseed known to stoner kind, it still matters.
After a few grows under your belt you might get approached by a company or breeder. If that doesn't happen wait until a company or breeder is asking for growers and apply. At this point it is easy because you can just post links to your detailed grow journals.

after that you adjust your style, skills and routine along side your knowledge and boom your a breeders dream
