HGO's Vertical Coco Run To Waste

nice garden!

other options:
* hand watering to eliminate hoses
* sealing the bottom catch tray so that run-off is used by the plants, and not wasted
* placing wheels onto the bottom catch (wooden tray build), and cutting off corners to make an octogon-or circular-shaped tray, so that it can be spun around. this will give you access to the all of the plants all of the tyme, w/out restricted access to the far corners
* lowering one of the lites, so that they become staggered and off-set. this will provide greater overall coverage & make it so they dont shine in to ea other. plants like different angles of lite....

laylow - I think you should give it a go, once you see the growth rate you'll be sold.

STUPPA - Hi mate, welcome. I loved your cheese grow, read it twice :D:D TBH I can't smell a thing in the growroom, the large filter takes care of any smell. I can't wait to see how they do in flower, I've been looking to grow cheese for ages now. Do you know the lineage of the suicide cheese cut? I think I remember reading that it was the Exodus Cheese x Afghan, is that right? I've lost track with all the X's. Hope you stay around for the finish man.

Hell9 -
Hey man good to see you here, I'm using canna coco this round with 20% perlite and I've got clay balls (hydroton) at the base of my 6.5Ltr pots for drainage. You really should convert over, once you see the results you won't go near soil again IMO, I know I won't, I'll keep my mother plants in soil but that is it. And yes I seen what you did there, Snypette showed me that last year lol.

*mistress*
- Feel free to throw your 0.2 in this thread anytime. I could give them the run off again but Bush Dr advised me not to and I'm seeing such good results this way. But yes it can be hard to throw all them nutes down the drain.

Stand by for some brilliant updates all, just getting my post made now. Wait to you see how much they are growing!

Vertical Coco FTW!!

Vertical Coco FTW!!

Ok folks it's been a very busy week for me and I only got up to the grow today. They are still getting 3 feeds a day and the EC has been put up to 1.4EC, well they are LOVING it. I was a bit weary at first but they are taking it all and not giving any signs of nute burn so I'm happy. I reckon I could put the EC up to 1.7EC but I'd have far too much leaf come flower.

Today is their last day of Veg so I thought it would be good to take a few snaps of their progress. They are EXPLODING in growth.

Again here are some comparison pictures...

...........5 Days ago............Today

You can see how much they have grown in 5 day's, they are without any doubt the fastest growing plants that I've done. I'm going to give them a good trim tomorrow, they are very leafy. Fuck I can't wait to see what size they are when the flower stretch is over :D:D

Temps and humidity are perfect, the humidity has went up from 35-45% to now a nice 65%.

ON TO THE CHEESE :D:D, again here are some comparison pics for you to study....

Filling out nicely!

Now for all you root freaks out there, take a seat away from the Mrs because I have some damn hot ROOT PORN here for ye!

4 weeks root growth in 6.5Ltr pots...

What do ya think of that? I don't know about you but I'm amazed, never had roots like that before in all my years of growing.

And here are some more random pics of the grow for you all...

That concludes another update, thank you all that have commented, I love to hear your opinions.

Viva La Coco! And Viva la Vertical!

If you aren't capturing the run-off, you should get that power strip off the floor. I mount mine to the sides and ceilings of my tents. I see now it's elevated a few inches... not good enough imo. what happens when a hose comes loose or something... safety first.

Yeah your right, I've been meaning to fix that. Where it is ATM is dry, the water never goes near there and there is very little run off. I'll get that sorted next time I call around. Can't be too careful.

Beautiful set up mate, nice and simple. I am currently changing over to vert with less plants and this definitely could be something to consider, full of WIN! mate :)

If you still need something to control the watering timings, then get you a TMU

Looks like this
tmu1.jpg

Read more here:

https://www.ukgroworks.co.uk/ukgrow.../products/TMU---Timing-Modifying-Unit/ID/3292

Basically you replace your existing plug from pump with this and then plug it into the timer instead, it has a frequency range on in seconds but you can also buy one that does minutes to.

Just wondering how is the run water passing those fans, are they not sucking it up at all?

Anyway, these should be some monsters mate! Looking forward to your progress

HGO

Check that root system...... :D

Dude I was already sold it's just my food bill has doubled and feeding your way would triple it again and my curent stadium has 144 plants in.....:comfort:

I am looking into blumats in the near future if I stick the stadium setup out..... :)

If your growth rate stays as it's been your going tomhave some monsters :ying:

Looks like you`ve come up on closeta optimum feed conditions on those smaller pots HGO....

When coco`s allowed ta dry out between feeds , there`s a root explosion as is perfectly shown in your update pics.....

Whadda yas think about their health in the higher humidity conditions.....Plants are speakin for themselves huh ?.......

Bro...You`re KILLIN it.....Major respect , and bigtime props ta Bush Dr for said design.......

Got a growbro on da left coast that does 3 lbs per 1KW regular with tha Giesel , so here`s hopin she shows off for yas this run.....

You`ll definitely have your hands full with them Cheese bushes as dense as they`re gettin BEFORE the flip and stretch....Thanks again fer tha killer update Bro......

Now FLIP dem bitches before yas REALLY lose control....LOL....I see severe shaved legs with inside rapin and pillagin goin on in the not too distant future.....

Teach them bitches who`s da Boss.....Thin em out early once flipped so they won`t stall/stunt/need recovery time , and make em perform for yas Bro.....

All the shapin/prunin , and trimmin`s can be cuts fer da next run YOU know.....Oh!.....Fergot the question on cuttin grow nutes.....

It was always strain dependent HGO , but generally with hybrids that stretched alot I left em in till they started swellin and cut the micro way down a couple weeks later , but with indica dominant varieties that don`t stretch as much , I left the grow in all the way through till finish , but in way lower ppm`s across da board.......

Rarely went over 750 ppm`s with any strain I ever ran......Heath sold me on less is more many yrs ago.......

Weed dougnutz in coco FTW.......DHF.....:ying:.....

Sorry to hijack your thread HGO but as the questions have been raised and you blamed me, ye bampot, here's my replies

nice garden!

other options:
* hand watering to eliminate hoses = reduce yield by 10% min unless you're prepared for 5 feeds a cycle at peak flower, the feed has to be fed gently so it doesn't wash through, say 1 minute/plant = at least 20 minutes by the time you've started and cleared up, 5 times a cycle = 100 minutes a cycle ....not for me

* sealing the bottom catch tray so that run-off is used by the plants, and not wasted
= 1) N/P/K of what? Fresh feed will definitely contain what your plant wants, add some recycled and you're adding what it's already decided it didn't want, why should it want a stronger feed of something it's already decided it didn't need
=2) Removal of salts and cleansing of roots
=3) No chance of spreading pythium from 1 plant to the whole lot as I found out, this
picture.php

Went to this in 5 days, all the other roots are dead so it's just the 'main' ones left
picture.php

Run off can successfully be used in the vegetable garden in the summer with old coco, we grew enough beans/peas/squash to feed 5 people

* placing wheels onto the bottom catch (wooden tray build), and cutting off corners to make an octogon-or circular-shaped tray, so that it can be spun around. this will give you access to the all of the plants all of the tyme, w/out restricted access to the far corners - why bother, you'll tangle your drip lines, you shouldn't rotate them for 'even coverage' or they'll end up with airy buds and after 4 weeks you don't want to be moving them about

* lowering one of the lites, so that they become staggered and off-set. this will provide greater overall coverage & make it so they dont shine in to ea other. plants like different angles of lite.... without computer modelling the light waves could actually interfere with each other, so let's Keep It Simple

Last day of veg

Last day of veg

~Shhh~ - Hey man, thank you for the great post man, that TMU is exactly what I need, it would solve a lot of problems. I'm going to order it right now!! The fan doesn't suck up any water, the fan has legs and is around a foot off the ground. I hope you hang around.

AOD2012 - Hi bro, I use 20% to coco. But I also add hydroton balls at the base of my pots to help with drainage. I also have to put hydroton on top of my coco to stop evaporation.

ambertrich - Head over heels bro, head over heels :D:D, actually I might just kick out the nagging bitch of a girlfriend heeeheeee. Yeah the roots have exploded big time, maybe the rhizotonic helped 'em out, it didn't last long though.

laylow - Hey bro, sorry I keep forgetting how much feed you actually go through each watering. Monsters? I hope so, just as long as I've got monster buds I'm happy. Major trim-job is going down today. Thank you man!

DHF - Hey man, yeah I think I'm feeding perfect ATM. I could up it a bit buy why fix what's not broken. TBH man when I went up to the grow this week I was shocked to see how much they had grown, the pics just don't cut it. I think it has something to do with the humidity. The humidity has went up all of a sudden by itself. The only thing that I can put it down to is the bigger plants, it must be the higher rate of respiration that's putting the extra moisture in the air because everything else has stayed the same.

Nice one, I found out that I don't have giesel in that growroom but I have her in the cloner now, she and SSSDH just popped roots in 6 days so I'm dying to see what I can do with her. Yeah I'm going up to do that trim job after my Sunday dinner....that's if I don't smoke after it and fade away :bigeye: LOL yeah I'm sharping my blade for these bitches, they gonna feel tha pain :D

Weed donuts, en-route :D:D

Bush Dr - Excellent post, as per usual. Sorry for landing you in it....not :bigeye: :bigeye: lol Hey man is that pythium in your roots spread by the run off?
