EOL Laos Luang Prabang

I just picked up a pack of the luang prabang on clearance and I had a couple of questions I hope someone can answer.

I found this thread, and I'm curious if the seeds currently being sold as EOL were collected on that trip back in 2007, or if any reproductions were done since then. If they are 10 year old seeds, is it safe to assume they were kept in cold storage? I knew they were old seeds when I ordered them, but I want to get a feel for what kind of germination rates to expect and how much of a hurry I should be in.

I'm surprised there aren't more grow threads for these. They seem pretty exciting to me.

Dj, most people aren't equipped to grow these out. Its great to see someone else excited for them. Ive grown out Gypsy's Thai Stick, and its comparable to the Luang Prabang. Expect 4-6 month flowering time for them.

The gypsy Thai stick had germ rates of over 80% if I recall, so I was happy with that considering theyre a bit old.

I got 5 of 7 to germ via a direct sow method last season. One was a runt so got culled early but I'm sure it would have of been ok if I had given it a little love and care.

The seeds come direct from the farmers in Laos in 2007 or whenever it was.

My seeds came by way of Ace and then atti*ude so naturally were stored under different conditions to those at Seed Boutique.

Good luck!

4-6 months doesn't sound so bad. I kept a few male Colombians happy for 4 moths in quart pots on 12/12 from seed. These will get much better treatment. I can only hope to get results as good as your Thai sticks. I plan on running these after your Durban testers. 80% germ rate on seeds that old is encouraging. Am I correct in assuming you sowed directly in soil?

MJPassion -
Luckily they sent out a total of 40 seeds, so I think I have pretty good odds of at least getting a few to sprout.

Gorgeous plant! how far into flowering is it in that picture? 70% germ rate is pretty good, considering their age and the variability in their handling. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the link! I've skimmed through that one before, but I'll give it a more thorough read.

The plant in the pic is a male. Not sure how long into flower it was. I wasn't keeping notes

Will post some more LLP pics in the Inquest thread when time permits.

Ah, upon closer inspection, I see the male flowers. Still a good looking plant! I'll keep an eye on inquests thread.

Thanks again!

Yes, I sowed directly into soil. Soak em over night in some water under the lights, and right into media. Id suggest a heating mat as well to improve germination.

Im sure you'll do an excellent job with them. Hope to see some pics of them in the future once you get to run em.
