Anyone Else Suffer From Insomnia

I have some hellatious sleep disorder that started as simple insomnia as a child & morphed into something much worse. My whole circadian rhythm is backwards & has been since I was about 12 years old. I can drug myself to sleep at night but I cannot stay awake an entire day no matter what I'm doing or what stimulant I take to stay alert. A strong fatigue & weakness comes over me & I have to take a nap. (I can't sleep in loud or uncomfortable conditions like most narcoleptics, but the daytime sleepiness is uncanny). Any time I try to stay awake during the afternoon I just feel cranky & miserable and end up in an argument with someone due to the moodiness.

Need a sleep study but no insurance now. Blah. My psychiatrist can't figure it out & doesn't think it's linked to depression or my meds and neither do I since it's gone on long before I was on any psych meds. Just feels like I'm wasting my life, ya know? I'm in my mid 30s & feel 80. If you name a supplement, chances are I've tried it to no avail. I need the harder stuff to even stay alert. Provigil (modafinil) wasn't even strong enough to take away the fatigue back in college. Weed & CBD only increase the tiredness so I save them for evenings & nights, which of course they don't knock me out then, lol.

So yeah. Insomnia is a thing for me. Started as soon as I got a bedtime at age 5. Nightmares too. I can sleep 15 hours a day & still feel exhausted.

Anne...so sorry you are struggling with this. Surely you would qualify for SSDI (disablilty) which would include Medicare. So you could at least get a diagnosis.

I have sleep apnea and my life, now that it's being treated, is much better in many ways.

Good luck and best wishes to you...

Try one meal a day. Watch videos on Youtube showing how guys do the one meal a day plan. Not kidding, give it a shot. Makes me sleep like a baby.
Also no caffeine, no peanut butter( A heart specialist told me that it's a stimulant), no tobacco, no alcohol, no sugar and no stimulating tv, books or movies at night. Wind down by getting and staying peaceful in the evening.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through all that and have been for awhile. I understand the frustration of just wanting to be able to function normally and not being able to. For me, the sleep studies haven't helped with anything other than giving me validation to offer to others when trying to explain this disorder and having it officially on the books that I suffer from chronic insomnia.

It's difficult for me to get appointments at a sleep specialist and when I do it usually takes a few months before they can see me.
I wish I had an answer to your problem. I feel like this area of the medical field is very far behind where everything else is at now. I hope you can find a way to start feeling better soon.

Used to consider four hours worth of sleep as less than.

i've been fighting with insomnia now over 10 years.

first, eat healthy and drink a lot of water. don't use caffeine at all.

exercise but don't too much or too late, remember rest.

keep your bedroom clean, dark & quiet.

biggest thing which helped me is meditation. you can try it with youtube but i prefer silence.

good night & sleep well

This is ICMAG. Why hasn't anyone suggested the obvious? Afghani.

Cause sleep disorders can be a complicated issue. Many different causes and not always a cure. For me, cannabis is the only thing that has come close to helping. And yes, I love me some Afghani buds.

Yep me 2, maybe I sleep 3 hours a day, but you know what, seeing its been that way for so long it doesn't bother me anymore. I mean.. I don't get sleepy all hours of the day like I use to! Really, now its like, cool I got 3 hours of sleep, so I am good to go! But it would be awesome to sleep through a full night!!!

JStomatoes.

I suffer from insomnia pretty often. I have been prescribed 3 or 4 different drugs like Trazadone. Lovely side effects; crappy stuff. I often prescribe myself a glass or two of wine but as we all know that isn't exactly healthy.

I traded some good sativa seed for the ultimate sleepy. Afghani. World-reknowned for putting you out. It is sprouting now. i can remember years ago going out on the nod after smoking it. Gonna try again.

melatonin didn't consistenly work for me either. Got the cannabis solution I hope.

i agree 100% cannabis is the only thing that helps me sleep.but its weird i never get the same effect from a strain. first night i smoked
three blue kings made me so tired i slept but other nights just stoned
so for me i need to find the right strain.thats what i am doing now i will have too try afghani strains.

Have you folks tried making cannabutter and then cookies? I sure sleep well with the cookie diet. It is possibly the CBN that does the trick.

Edibles are my personal favorite for sleep and pain. Use a heavy Indica that is fully ripe with lots of amber trichomes. Cannabis has been a blessing for my insomnia and delayed sleep phase syndrome.

I too am a sufferer of this insomnia . I've been at it since I was in my early 20's which works out to be around half of my life .
I used to suffer with night terrors as a child and I suppose that fear stays with you .

I don't like the taste Zoplicone leaves in your mouth , makes food and drink taste rank .
Smoking and drinking work ( I am not a heavy drinker ) however it takes a lot of smoke to knock me out . One day I will be able to provide myself with an adequate yield .

Maybe I was an Owl in a past life … Oh what a hoot .

Just because it bubbles a little when I do it, I heat my cannabutter I make from ABV, at 250 for 30 mins, then stir in the lechithin, and toss it in the batter. One time I went out to do a quick chore and ended up being out for 2 1/2 hours. The butter was over cooked. A poor friend who comes by in the evenings when I am feeding the fish, and mooches cookies (which I don't really mind), got that over-cooked butter. Yesterday he said his son put some of that butter on a pastry and later slept for 12 hours.

THC turned to CBN is my guess.

I wear a ring device ( https://getwellue.com/ ) that I can download and print out a report of my sleep. My issue is I get too lazy to breath deep enough, and my O2 goes low. It went off several times last night. The ring will vibrate to alert me at my setting of 88, and remind me to yawn and get enough air. I am doing my best to avoid a CPAP. Yawning, the SPO2 goes to 99.

I think last night's poor sleep was due to eating too late, and a stuffy nose. I feel tired today.

3 years since my last post here, and still have insomnia. Up all night, go to bed around 9AM can't get to sleep, but try for 10 hours or more. That is with vaping, a bunch of beers 5 mg melatonin, 2 antihistamines, and sometimes a half muscle relaxant. Great dreams the little amount of time I am asleep.
