What's new

ridomil in hydro?

i'm sick of dealing with the hydro herpes.
pythium, brown algae, or cyanobacteria,
whatever the culprit pathogen may be
(there's a lot of debate and contention on this point).

i have tried everything short of nukes:

my environmentals are on lock.
ambient never goes below 60 at night or above 80 during the day.
my res is always between 60 and 70
(usually 65, but the pump cycles cause a little fluctuation).
pH target is 5.8 but never higher than 6.0 or below 5.5.

fixes that didn't cut it:
bio- zho, aquashield, roots excel, EWC tea, this-zyme, that-zyme,
blah blah blah.
sterile- h2o2, sm-90, physan 20, bleach.
DM Zone worked for awhile, but the slime has developed a resistance, even when I use it in rotation.

it's not a hygiene issue either.
everything is immaculate and sterile at the start of a run.

i'm ready for final solutions.
ridomil seems to be the prescribed fix.
it is not expressly labeled for use in hydroponics,
but i understand it is suitable.
can anyone tell me the proper dilution ratio
and how long i leave this stuff in?

i'm open to other suggetions too.
long as you're not going to tell me to burn my system and switch to dirt.
you guys are about as helpful as the people who would yell
"Get a horse" to folks whose model t ford broke down
a hundred years ago.

thanks gang.

Ridomil works, but its sort of like using Monitor, Avid, Floramite for pests....

I've run that shit in an aero rez warm enough to bathe in and the rot actually stopped and the plants cropped out fairly decently.

Can you tell us about your nute regimen though?

Are you by any chance in WA state? (there is a water issue I know of in a small area there that defies logic)

With the chemicals you've tried already mentioned and the fact the rez stays below 70, you shouldn't be seeing this come back so often.

i'm not in washington.
i know i shouldn't be seeing this coming back so often.
that's why i'm pulling my goddamn hair out.

straight gh flora nutes.
i don't deviate much from lucas.
just a dash of humic acid and some cal mag.
nothing organic, no silica.

how long do you leave it in the res?
what strength?

i don't follow the comparison to avid and floramite though.

Are you still getting it running a dead'res from the start, or just using the H2o2,Bleach,Physan to cure existing infection. Im surprised the physan never cut it. Certainly sounds like a water source problem. A member here @ IC started a thread, cant remember title & he was saying the antibiotic 'erythromycin' worked for him, but i cant remember all the details, i certainly took notice. See if i can find the thread.

have you tried running beneficial bacteria from the start?

i neglected to mention that i've already tried erythromycin.
no appreciable difference.
here is that thread:

UltraCurrent managed to get himself banned.
dude seemed thorough about a lot of things,
but had some pretty off the wall ideas about other stuff.
i tried the antibiotics out of desperation more than anything.

the only time i deviated from the dead rez was to try the bennies to clear this up.
i run ro water. spores shouldn't be able to pass the membrane, right?

Ahh.

Ridomil SL Gold!

Saved my ass on many 80 pound rooms.

Run at 1 ml per 10 gallon for 24 hours. It gets in to the plant xylem and stays in it for quite a while.

I've had many sleepless nights as a commercial producer using this product. Wasn't proud to use it.

is it possible to use these products with out killing the good bacteria in your water?

S

SeaMaiden

A fungicide? And if it's effective, that's suggesting strongly that at least *this* particular case of rot is fungal, that's all it's effective against as far as I'm seeing on the label & MSDS.

I haven't gotten to MOA on the label yet.

Glad I found your ridomil threads, avant, thanks for putting these up!

as you can see, they have bounced back nicely and are pretty much stabilized. they're in buckets now and getting flipped in a couple days.

and ok, so apparently cross posting violates the TOU, and since i'm not trying to get whacked with the ban hammer—not just yet anyhow—all subsequent posts on this topic can be found in this thread:

I honestly can't believe you brought them back. I kept looking at the roots and thinking, "Ain't gonna happen, it's a goner."

Bounced back nicely is an understatement.

hey gang-

sorry about the missing images. i had a security breach/paranoid episode and took everything down. i've started putting them all back up, but it ain't gonna happen overnight.

anyway and update. it took awhile to get everything stabilized again, but i did. they've all been moved to the other room and are doing well. i didn't mind letting em veg the extra little while because it'll give them more time to work any residuals of the ridomil put of their system.
