Lowering of THC content

Hello ICmag!

I was curious if you could lower the THC of a, say, .7-1% strain to under .3 with horticultural measures. E.g with letting it ripen longer so that the THC gets oxidized to CBN, or with raising the Temperature for the same effect. Obviously that would affect the CBD content too but as we've, lets say, 6% cbd the effect could be neglible to get to the desired THC level right?
Or is there maybe even an nutrient regime or a (non toxic) chemical agent that would do that trick?
This is wrecking my brain for months now so any help/idea/different point of view will be highly appreciated!

Thanks

Hallo Grün
If you'd harvest well before maturity, all cannabinoids would be lower.
You could also plant some low THC variety to begin with ;) .
Depending on the country you're living in and the reasons for your plantation, it may not just be the 0.3% THC which counts and growing a non-registered variety might be illegal no matter what the THC % say.
There might be some (agro-)chemicals resulting, as a side effect, in lower cannabinoid content but said chemicals are likely neither approved for the use on hemp nor for the purpose of lowering cannabinoid production. Toxicity will also depend on the residue remaining in the final produce. You could apply too much nitrogen which keeps the plant in growing mode and results in later and lesser flower production. It would fulfil your requirement but at a cost you may not be willing to pay.

Why exactly are you asking?

Boy its been some time, hasnt it??
Sorry for the slight delay.

Im situated in austria and here were allowed to grow hemp and sell flower under .3% thc.

Harvesting prematurely is sadly not a real option as we have a rather competetive market here and we need to have terps and ripe flowers.

Yeah ive experimented with a few PRGs but its not really what im looking for.

Ive tried several strains that are claimed to be under/around .3% but im consistently going above. I think its because of the high co2 and sealed environment im running...

I found a way that works to push plants a little down though. Only works if youre close to what you want to achieve, but just let them go a little longer.
That way some of the thc and cbd get translated into cbn which is a nice benefit as its a real good relaxing agent and not prohibited in most places.

And if you got your environment dialed in you can up your terpenes and flavonoids when you run cool temperatures a little longer in the finishing phase.

But it really only works for very small percentages.. cant be above .35 with the starting material if you want to go to .3
