Grub coming out of cankers on the stalk!!!

Please Help!!!

Never have i seen a grub come out of a plant!! At first i thought the ants had made their home in the stem. ( which i still think)
If any one can identify this or have seen something similar much appreciated in advance!

Been hearing some talk of Corn Borers, and they do look fairly similar. BT/Spinosad?

We have caterpillars like this in the north east.

They go right down the stalk and kill the plant.
