Welcome to KwaZulu Natal in the Thai tropics and my third grow report. The first grow was some Swazi and the second some Thai.

After a smooth landing at the New King Shaka airport we head to the regional capital Durban and it's famous Golden Mile beach. This port town has a colourful history which is reflected in the local strain of cannabis, famous for it's taste and effects. We then head off into the mountains in search of the elusive Zulu medicine and in the Valley of 1000 Hills, we found a small farm, smoked some weed and gathered some seed.

Stage 1: Germination

Stage 1: Germination

From the first batch of seeds that I planted into seed trays, most of the plants emerged spindly and weak and had to be propped up with toothpicks. I only keep 7 healthy plants and before the end of a month, there were only 4 healthy plants remaining. The plants did not display significant variation, so I was reasonably sure that I had a stable strain.

I wanted to increase the sample size and I felt my germination technique could be improved. So I decided to try another batch of seeds. I improved the germination rate and overall health of the plants by using heating underneath the seed trays, improving the airflow, and other basic adjustments. From this second attempt I had 15 healthy seedlings.

Stage 2: Growth

Stage 2: Growth

The 4 plants were grown indoors under various floro tubes and CFLs with a 24 hour regime. After a few weeks the stems do become a little stronger, but they are still flexible, unlike the rod-like steeliness of the Swazi from my first grow. They were grown in small grow bags to restrict the roots.

In week 8 I was caught by surprise when they started flowering. They were between 60 and 80 cm tall, 17 nodes, with some side-branching.

Meanwhile, the second batch of 15 seedlings are in their 5th week of growth. They range in height from 29 to 14 cm, with about 11 nodes.

Stage 3: Flowering

Stage 3: Flowering

In week 8 of growth from seed the plants started flowering while still under 24 hour lights.

It is now week 9 and the one male has been eliminated. The 3 remaining females will remain under 24 hour lighting so that I can observe how they respond. They should finish flowering within the next 8 weeks.

UPDATE: The females are now in the flowering room with a 12/12 light cycle

Sounds amazing, I want your Rooibart and your Durban Poison. :D

:xmasnut: Merry Christmas is around the corner, I want to gift Sum1 a Christopher Nolan DVD, but which one?

1) Man of Steel - The film is scheduled for release on June 14, 2013.
UPDATE: Now released and it's rubbish.

2) Transcendence - Which revolves around two hackers working towards the goal of the technological singularity, as a radical anti-technology organization fights to prevent them from creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain. The event horizon is scheduled for April 18, 2014.

3) Interstellar - The film will reportedly depict "a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding". This will be a short film, set for release date November 7, 2014.

4) Inception - I think this is a future project, not yet released.

Welcome to the dread zone! Did you bring a remote for the CD player, or a knobkerrie?

Folks, dread was gifted a couple of seeds labelled "kwazulu natal". My guess is it's Durban Poison.

Howdy Burgundy, thank you for the frosty introduction.

:snowkiss:

Welcome to my third grow report. Instead of the grow report ending up throughout the thread, the main report is the first page. This makes it easier for you to read. Since this is the start of the grow, there is little to show.

I'll add more information when I have it.

The rest of the thread is just chit chat and news. If anything exciting happens, I'll update the FIRST page. Please visit again as I'll update the pages soon. You can read the first page to get an update of the grow, or jump to the last page for fun.

I hope that helps you, if not, just ask a question or make a friendly suggestion.

ROFL rolling a fat one for all the good people at other sites.
