Gravity and other known carcinogens

C

CT Guy

Was in the largest hydro shop in WA State yesterday, and noticed they have Gravity from Humboldt Nutrients still on the shelves. I asked them about it because I had understood that the dept of Ag had issued a "stop sale" because it contains ingredients that are known carcinogens. They said the dept of Ag guys had come in last week and made them remove all those types of products from their shelves, but had missed these bottles and they were hoping to sell them before anyone noticed. They said they get guys in there that will buy out whatever they can because they're "medical" growers and can get more $ for their crop. The people behind the counter knew the dangers of these products and still were willing to sell them to growers to make a buck. It really pissed me off. I couldn't believe it! In addition, they were talking about putting up whatever stock they had left on craigslist if they weren't able to sell it in store.

I know other large scale growers that are using Eagle 20. These are chemicals that would never be allowed on a farm growing food and the bottles clearly state they're for ornamental plants only.

Moral of the story: If you buy "medical" from a dispensary or other source, you have no idea what you're getting.

Grow your own and make good ethical decisions about what you grow for others. That's what this forum is all about.

This is what i tell everyone who has Outdoor Cali "Medical" here. I ask them if it is so great then why did it leave Cali?

I just brought it up because I think people need to be aware and educate others...

CT,
Thanks for your post and your concern. This really bothers me. These chemicals are herbicides that are applied in a dilute enough form that the plants survive. Seriously unethical, especially for med growers to use. Med states should require testing for many things including this, and disallow sales of them for meds. We have a completely unregulated industry. -granger

That is the reason I grow my own, and make it a point to explain exactly what is used on my plants to my patients. Most people honestly don't seem to care, but I try and explain it to them anyway.......

There's a thread somewhere on the federal raids on that outfit.

There is a version of E20 that is for use on foodstuffs, including GH-grown tomatoes. I don't advocate it, simply relaying the information.

That's a pretty broad generalization. I know some Outdoor Cali Med growers....that do very nice work....completely organically.

Your question has as much relevance as "If BMW makes such nice cars then why do they leave Germany?"

Not trying to start shit, but you make it sound like all Cali OD is sprayed with nasty shit and it's simply not the case.

Simply put, it left Cali because there's still an excellent market for it. Even I can work that kind of math.

KCar,
Thanks for the info. This is a perfect look at how the regulation of Agriculture in the U.S. is controlled by the Agri-Chemical industry. The decision makers in our bureaucracies are almost always people who came from the industries they regulate, and will go back to a sweet "position" in those same industries. -granger

Isn't smoke in itself a known carcinogen?

Literally tons of shit we come across every day in life contain carcinogens. Its not the responsibility of some BS dept or hydro-shop to keep us safe and protect us from the evil growers who use these products. Its our own! Due your own due diligence in all aspects of life..and stop passing around the blame.

I'm not one for using Paclo or similar types of PGRs, but don't feel the hydro shop needs to be the one policing this shit. If someone wants to use paclo that is their own decision.

As the OP mentioned, those concerned about what goes into their food and/or cannabis should grow there own or seek out honest caregivers who are truthful into what goes into their produce.

You could nit pick and worry about this type of shit in all aspects of life. We start dieing the day we are born.... do what ya can, where ya can to avoid "dangers" in life, but to get angry at a shop for selling something that their customers desire is just silly. Fortunately that is the world we live in.

Regulation is not the answer.

FlowerFarmer,
You ever heard of ethics? I guess not. I would put this thread in the category of "due diligence," but you seem to think that weed comes to the consumer with a full disclosure label. There are plenty of unethical growers around, and then there are those who aid and abet the unscrupulous, like you. Get real. -granger
