It seems impossible that a gallon of gasoline, which weighs about 6.3 pounds, could produce 20 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) when burned. However, most of the weight of the CO2 doesn't come from the gasoline itself, but the oxygen in the air.

When gasoline burns, the carbon and hydrogen separate. The hydrogen combines with oxygen to form water (H2O), and carbon combines with oxygen to form carbon dioxide (CO2).

CO2 molecule with one carbon atom (atomic weight 12) and two oxygen atoms (atomic weight of 16 each)A carbon atom has a weight of 12, and each oxygen atom has a weight of 16, giving each single molecule of CO2 an atomic weight of 44 (12 from carbon and 32 from oxygen).

Therefore, to calculate the amount of CO2 produced from a gallon of gasoline, the weight of the carbon in the gasoline is multiplied by 44/12 or 3.7.

Since gasoline is about 87% carbon and 13% hydrogen by weight, the carbon in a gallon of gasoline weighs 5.5 pounds (6.3 lbs. x .87).

We can then multiply the weight of the carbon (5.5 pounds) by 3.7, which equals 20 pounds of CO2!

About 19.6 pounds of CO2 are produced from burning a gallon of gasoline that does not contain fuel ethanol. About 12.7 pounds of CO2 are produced when a gallon of pure ethanol is combusted.

Burning a gallon of E10 produces about 17.6 pounds of CO2 that is emitted from the fossil fuel content. If the CO2 emissions from ethanol combustion are included, then about 18.9 pounds of CO2 are produced when a gallon of E10 is combusted.

About 22.4 pounds of CO2 are produced from burning a gallon of diesel fuel. Biodiesel fuel can be purchased in many states. Biodiesel fuel is sold with various amounts of biodiesel content. B20 is a commonly sold biodiesel fuel. B20 contains 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel fuel. Burning a gallon of B20 results in the emission of about 17.9 pounds of CO2 that is emitted from the fossil fuel content

It's too bad the people who told you magic insulation makes more energy come out of things it makes less go into,

didn't also teach you the name of the Gas Law involving your claims.

The sole chart in all chemistry assigning both CO2 and Atmospheric Air their energy constants for usage in the REAL calculation,

of the REAL temperatures of gas mixes,

assigns CO2 the LOWER Energy Constant, or ''R''

and assigns Air the HIGHER Energy Constant, also ''R''

for use in REAL calculations of temperatures of volumes of gas mixes, using the REAL math written to do it, ''PV =nRT.''

In other words you didn't know it because all you can do is copy paste but addition of CO2 to air is MANDATED by gas LAW - those energy constants - to make the mix COOLER through addition of CO2.

The chart is part II of the law and is all over the internet because REAL science uses it all the time.
