My mom is a huge martial arts movie fan and she brushed off on me, so I've been a lot of good ones. Anyone enjoy shaolin movies? I love the one the Shaw Bros did called Shaolin Temple.

I want to see this topic grow! Who else watches the old school Chinese movies?

Hero ~ Jet Li, is damn near the best movie I've ever seen, but you need a legit tv and sound setup to trip out.

Yeah I remember standing on a sleazy, smelly street corner in Mongkok (Kowloon) back in 1985... waiting for this beat-up van to pick me up at 6am in the morning to take me out to some container port where they filmed some of the scenes in the movie.....I made 600 Hong Kong dollars a day(about $80 u.s.d. at the time) and worked for about 5 days on this film......I played the part of Tommy Foster supposedly a C.I.A. agent....

Lunch was served in a polystyrene box and consisted of some over-cooked rice with a bit of chopped pork fat on the top...

I think the budget for the whole film was about 10-15,000 usd.....

Cannon films came to Hong Kong in 1986 to film 'Blood Sport' with Bolo and Van Damme mostly at Clearwater Bay studios.....I managed to get a small part in that film as Per Gustavson a Swedish nobleman that gets beaten up in a few seconds by Bolo.....

....The budget for that film was $5,000,000......and the food was much better.......plus the pay was $300 usd a day, and they had me hanging around for about 21 days.....all for about a minute in the film....

I <3 Jackie Chan

But I'm trying to figure out what movie this is, theres like a mini colosium or something in this movie where all these kung fu guys have to fight and they have like horrible weapons like saw blades on chains. Ring a bell to anyone? It's not a horror type kung fu flick really it's just really corny.

All the classics seem to be covered in the thread (big up to Snake in Eagle's Shadow) but noone's mentioned The Protector, the real sequel to Ong Bak, easily the best modern martial arts movie. Also by the same director a movie called Chocolate is really really good, it's about an autistic girl who kicks the shit out of everybody, amazing choreography.

DRUNKEN MASTER ('94 jackie chan)- START WATCHING AT 2:47.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfU-6Jt-ia8 - chan downs industrial alcohol, exhales alcohol vapor. mist. goes insane and unleashes the beast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfU-6Jt-ia8
drunken boxing is real recognized form (with alcohol or w/o), extremely effective for a mixed martial arts fight, drunken boxing allowing you to flow freely to elements of other styles like wing chun, never leaving self ungaurded

IRON MONKEY

The Myth: jackie chan... don't get me started on my asian chick obsession with actresses that look that in that movie, shes the typical "hottest asian" IMO, perfect.

Fealerless- jet li

Zatoichi, blind swordsman (oldschool and bad ass, some of the sickest/badass and most scenes of insane samurai swordsmanship you ever see in movie.)

japanese:
The last samurai, who gives a shit about tom cruise but the fucking historical story is important because of what happened- to see charging samurai cavalry against repeating howitzer cannons when historicaly had those few japs emperors advisers not sold out their culture for military power the union trained "westernized japs" would be kneeling there, no firearms in hand at the mercy of true HONOR/DUTY (samurai warriors) a field strewn with decimated rifle armed Japanese. like the Greek spartan 300 (not even thinking of the movie).

-The honor and spirit of warriors like that must never die and live through preservation by passing on the martial arts even in the day of firearms, along with preserving the ancient culture by text and artifact. I think its most importantly asian youth both native and foreignly born, recogniz their TRUE and ancient heritage.

Most of the stuff they teach you in kung fu will get your ass kicked real word style. For instance the riding horse stance legs spread shoulder width apart with fists at the hips. WTF Never I mean never drop your dukes unless you are striking or your advesary goes down rule number one.

You couldn't be more wrong about the horse stance. It's for conditioning, making your legs super strong and building stamina. You don't fight with your hands at your waist in the southern chamber, basically it's where you keep your hands for the horse stance training and where you throw your punches from for training purposes only. 2 days of tae kwon do and army boxing is not kung fu.

Check out Ip Man. Shit is the best representation of Wing Chun out there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt34aHAFkV8 ( this is one fight sequence, but by far not the best one )

SPOILER ALERT: This fight sequence is the best of the film...

fuck yes, true testament to the power of wing chun
Anyone who watches that first video questioning what wingchun is, 1:40 into the vid and on is your answer.

SPOILER ALERT: This fight sequence is the best of the film...

you might as well watch that scene spoiler or not, PUREST wing chun at 2:16 and forward
watch the final fight as well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqSWIcDghjk&NR=1 <----wingchun my friends

heres some excellent wing chun demo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWJ1DqG0YLY&feature=fvw

Raw wingchun real life in a chinese school, heres a disciple of wingchun preserving the style (white shirt)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=196kCQawtcc&feature=related < -- fight 2, broken down and more elemental
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=196kCQawtcc&feature=related <--- fight 3, aggressive almost beyond wing chun tradition it seems.

drunken fist, wing chun, fist of nature, jeet kune do, Zi Ra men
intertwine in their nature sharing similar principles and techniques. you don't block mastered wing chun lol. either way they allow you to defeat any form of hand to hand combat when executed correctly, especially a combination of the above styles. (That's right all you USMC, seals or rangers out there, its where your tactics came from, it just got watered down for you and inclusion of firearms other variables etc..)
