I have a ton of what I think are nettles in my yard, and they don't sting. Here is a pic, are they really nettle? They smell like garlic when I soak them.

Pics are being fucky I will have to add them later unfortunately.

if they don't sting they aren't nettles or you aren't sensitive.

are the leaves alternate, or opposite?

could be garlic mustard from your description.

wood nettle, which is alternate leaved, has a lookalike called white snakeroot that is poisonous.

stuff that looks like nettle, but doesn't sting, is often called dead nettle

It is garlic mustard, which is alleopathic apparently...

"Garlic Mustard produces allelochemicals which suppress mycorrhizal fungi that most plants, including native forest trees, require for optimum growth.[10] However, allelochemicals produced by Garlic Mustard do not affect mycorrhizal fungi from Garlic Mustard's native range,"

So my native mycorrhizal fungus in my soil is OK, but the store bought stuff won't survive?
