Does ICmag block certain countries? (Thailand)

Only reason I created this account was to ask this question. Even lurking is a real hassle because of this issue, let alone contributing...

Whenever I try to access ICmag from any Thai server, the website returns a server error. Thai government does block many sites, but it is never this consistent, never this thorough, and there are no other cannabis sites blocked in Thailand. The notice is in English as well, which makes me think it is on ICmag's end.

What gives?

Appreciate it. This is one of the best cannabis communities that often delves into actual research more than most resources, but it's a hassle paying for and installing a VPN just to see the content.

Usually MICT are extremely sloppy, but this is 100% of the links, 100% of the time from any Thai based server. I don't know enough about networking to properly diagnose.

I could have been more thorough. It's a 403 error.

It has occurs through Chrome, Firefox, and Edge; both PC and android. Multiple Thai ISPs. Multiple IPs, including local and proxy (Thai based). The only way to bypass is to use a VPN/proxy located outside Thailand.

Just this guy, ya know?
Skip can check the /var/log/apache2/error.log and it should give a reason for the returning of the 403 error. From my understanding 403 is a "client has no authorization". Which is weird that it happens when you aren't even logged in. Do you have a screenshot of the notice? Also try and reset your cookies. That will probably end up logging you out of any websites you are currently logged into. Then you can try to relogin to icmag.

I'm on windows, not linux unfortunately. It's just the generic message:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /ic/showthread.php on this server.

@elmer. Chok Dee means good luck. idk who you are referring to. As I've said, blocks from the government redirect to a notice in Thai and never block entire domains as thoroughly as this. Even the blatantly blocked pages don't always redirect as MICT is not effective managing all ISP servers. I think it's more likely the domain is blocking regional IPs.

Does site management ever check this forum? No disrespect, but I don't think this is a problem the community can address.

And yes, I've reset cookies. I've tried accessing from fresh installs of firefox and edge. It's multiple devices, multiple IPs, etc. etc.

Nah that's the error log Skip will need to check on the server's logs. Gypsy is in charge and I'm sure he's forwarded it to Skip or whoever can figure it out. Good luck bro! :tiphat:

You need to use a proxy outside Thailand.

Actually blocking major sources of spam is one of the only ways to keep a web forum clean in the 21st century. :tiphat:

W

Water-

havent just come back from thailand.
I think that its probably best to ban a country that does not allow free speech.

people get arrested for posts on facebook there.

who knows what a post on here could do to someone.

If Thailand is blocked due to the amount of spam originating from there, that's not an anti-Thai thing, that's an anti-spam thing. And that's good site management if you ask me. Most def it's not a personal attack towards Thai ppls or anything like that. So instead of taking it personally and getting mad, just grab Opera browser, which has an easy to use VPN built in, and use it to browse the site. That's like three clicks with your mouse and you're good.

Something like that, there are easy ways around the blockade is all I'm saying.. But you know, whatever, dude :comfort:
