Pharmaceuticals vs. MMJ

Hi, this isn't a new theory or anything but I was wondering how it sits with this particular forum. Do you think pharmaceutical companies are opposing the legalization of marijuana and, if so, do you think it's for cancer-killing properties that could take away a huge chunk of their business?

Reality is stranger, no, more horrible than fiction ever could be
you can't take anything at face value in this world
I think it's pretty obvious, personally,
and guarantee it's even more complex and corrupt than what you present.

Take a gander at the history of how cannabis was criminalized, who still lobbies against its decriminalization, and all of the insane civil rights violations big pharma cos has been guilty of for a long time.

marijuana can replace quite a few different medications without all them nasty side affects the pills and such have....so fuck ya ...if its legal anyone could grow it and not need their pills..stock prices go down and unhappy share holders...yeehaw,, they got the cash so most likely they will be the ones growing it on some level.. not as much profit as pills..anyone can grow..cant have a monopoly growing dope ,unlike pills..till they have a quick way to be able to check if your weed is legal somehow ..hard to really regulate marijuana...I cant make my own Viagra, or valium ect..not that I need either, just example ,,altho I would have some fun with a 4 hour boner...

I don't think there is any conspiracy theory here the simple fact could well be there is no financial incentive to research marijuana, drug companies appear to be doing research but not sharing. Why not share? because they want to learn how cannabis works then make a similar drug that they CAN make money from so although research is going on we will never gain anything from it as far as cannabis goes.

Yes. Big pharma want's profits, same with energy companies. We are constantly being shafted by big business.

Yeah, I guess it's not hidden enough to be a conspiracy theory. One of the nice things about living in the internet age - harder to pull the wool over the public's eyes.

There is no doubt in my mind that big pharma is responsible for a lot of the regulations we have faced and currently face as growers/cannabis users.

Luckily I'm moving back out west soon (less than a month now), but here in the South where I've been at for a few years the only option the doctors have given me has been prescription medication (which I refuse to take). When my flowers can fix my migraines and depression problems, my only legal options shouldn't be pharma anti-depressants (that often make problems worse), and opiate painkillers that are dangerous and addictive.

Wrote about this before it happened boy did I get flamed for stating how I felt big pharma would play their cards.

Believe what you will, but the record opium crops in Afghanistan this year is in part, thanks to big pharma. http://tribune.com.pk/story/910215/...tput-sparks-rise-in-cheaper-heroin-supply-un/

Where do you think they get the precursors for Pharmaceutical opiates?

True - I'm surprised so many states are passing without notable pharmaceutical pressure. Maybe they plan on just pulling the plug next year at the federal level?

Well I had predicted that big pharma and other big money interests would simply corner the market through capitalization and lobby. So at some point only a few producers will be able to work in the market and every one else will be penalized if the cultivate.

Happening in my state now, MMJ was passed, the corporations that were able to apply for cultivation were pre - established, backed by big money and had political ties.

Try making pharmaceuticals at home, see how enabling the laws are.

From 3 years ago, this article says that big pharma is the 4th largest anti-pot lobbying group:

http://www.republicreport.org/2012/marijuana-lobby-illegal/

Of course they were anti-pot lobbying magnets! But, I bet they were reeling when GWPharma put Sativex on the market in 2010, Marinol (ABBOTT Labs) in 1985.

Baby steps, but not where pharmaceuticals should be in regards to umpteen cannabis efficacy studies.
