Chime in if MJ is truly pain-killing medicine for you - I'm confused

I am a huge MJ advocate - but I just don't see how it is a pain killing medicine. Now, I know these things are hugely personal and I am by no means trying to invalidate any another person's experience. But if I have even a minor pain when I toke up - no matter the strain, time of day or whatever - it becomes more acute. It does not get worse per se - but I become much more in tune with it. Sometimes I say "Wow - I didn't even realize my knee (or whatever) hurt until now" when I smoke. It seems to me that - if anything - MJ would be good for those that have a hard time pinning down their pain -to make it more clearly defined so they better get treatment. I go from "my wrist hurts" to "the pain in my wrist starts here - it travels up this way and gets worse here and ends there"

Just a topic for conversation

I have a script from my doctor for the following meds, MJ, Oxycontin, T3's, Cyclobenzaprine, and a few others. All have there place and should be used appropriately. I find 1 gram of vap'd Mj to do wonders after that long day or work takes its toll on me, anymore and the pain is still there just enough and its a perfect treatment.

Yeah, good topic, I'd like to see what ppl have to say..

I had some surgery on a joint and the pain was intense.
Kind of like a deep but persistent dull stabbing pain.
The pain pills didn't work all that well so a lot of MJ was consumed in that time..

In combination with the pain pills it seems to help 98% of the time, it was almost like it took your mind off it. 2% of the time it made my mind focus on it and made it a little worse, but that usually didn't last long.

This was with crappy genetics, too, nothing special, just good quality street weed, nothing too potent..

love?

Yeah, sometimes it's not so much that the pain goes away, just that it doesn't really bother you anymore.

I agree with junior_grower competely

I have IBS and the only way I can effectively use MJ for medicinal purposes is to remain at one gram homegrown buds (not mids haha) per day. Below this level and I get too high, and can't function on MJ on a daily basis, above this level Mj loses it's pain killing properties for me as well.

Another thigh that might work for you is CBD capsules or edibles. They seems to separate the mind from the pain, and relieve it somewhat as well.

Cannabis replaced 5 different medications from pain killers, mood stabilizers, anti depressant, IBS and Viagra...

Wow -I love to hear these stories. For full disclosure - I dont have any chronic conditions - I have never been prescribed MJ - I am just relating what happens when I toke up. In fact- I have probably never even had any "killer" strains - but some quality nirvana strains and others. I can say - I have found it replaces Viagra damn well at times. Not that I need Viagra - just sayin....

my pain's bad enough my doc has me on oxycontin & hydromorphone.

I prefer to use cannabis to ease the pain and anxiety that comes w/it.

as we all know cannabis works well on the mind and what helps the mind certainly helps the body.......

I have a herniated disk and cannabis does nothing to stop the aches and pains in my back. Well it can remove the pain but I have to be so high that I don't function so there's no point. No way could I drive or work with the amount I have to take to make the pain go away.

Does cannabis work? Yes it does but not on everyone and only in with certain disorders.

Just like celebrex. I know people who took it and it worked great for them. I took it at 200mg and I again it did nothing whatsoever for pain relief. T3's worked really good but at least for me they are only good for 1-2 weeks of pain relief then it stops working and I had to take nigher doses which at that point side effects like itching all over my body kicked in.

So now I just live with the pain. Yes it sucks but better then doing permanent damage to my system from any kind of drugs.

just had a tumor about the size of a golf ball removed from the arch of my foot last wed. was prescribed norco (double vicodin) at 2 pills every 4-6 hrs. with a small bowl put through a vaporizer and one pill im "pain free" for 8 hrs so i would say in my case its a fantastic supplement.

I've never experienced back pain in my inter life. I "zinged" my back one day and just said holy shit this is back pain, i felt pity for all the people out there who have constant back pain.
Well at the time I had some stuff that really didn't do it for me in the head department, but when I smoked some in ten seconds my back pain was gone. If that isn't pain medicine I don't know what is!

K+ to the people with back pain out there, may your medicine be plentiful

I have a schnazzleberry2 pheno that would completely change your opinion. I have been high many time from many strains, but that pheno has something that the others don't. I only tryed pills a couple times when I was younger, this plant is exactly the same. You straight up Mcmelt. I could smoke 100 plants and tell you exactly when we hit that one. A blueberry dominant schnazzleberry #2, blueberry is IMO a very versatile medicine based off what I have read.

The pheno I am keeping is the ugilest plant in the room, but has very fat buds that smell like someone spilled a blueberry shake in the home depot PVC section.

For me, an old afghan or heavy indy girl, made into a tincture does the trick. Just a few drops under my tongue and it's all good, for all my aches and pains.

I dont think Sativa's are very good for pain or illness. It tends to make you more aware of it, whist the Indica's seem to take the mind away from it to the point of no longer noticing. Sativa's are great for creativity and good company though :)

People say smoking makes pain more acute...control your mind..use the pot to distract from the pain rather than focusing all of your attention on it...focus your feeling "outside" of the pain when you are high and it will disappear....or just smoke some "purpz" and ur done
