Australia 'legalising' medical marijuana from November 2016

It's very early days and I struggled to read through the written-for-legalese-not-humans announcements of the Therapeutic Goods Administration who made the announcement this week, but here's a couple of news articles about it anyway ... but to my surprise they both also hint at the possibility of GROWING. But when i read the TGA's announcement i didnt see much about growing, it seemed more a "Move from Schedule 9 to Schedule 8" (kinda like US Schedule I to II), but with Nabiximols "buccal sprays" (like Sativex) moved to Schedule 4, which i think means doctors could prescribe them

Although the new medical marijuana system in Australia will be under strict control, allowing citizens to legally grow and produce cannabis as a medicinal product will likely bring in a lot of money for the entire country. We will have to wait until November to see how accessible and efficient Australia’s cannabis industry will be for patients in need, but the fact that medicinal marijuana will soon be legalized countrywide is breaking news all on its own.

The final decision comes after Federal Parliament this year lent bipartisan support to changes to the Narcotic Drugs Act to allow cannabis to be legally grown and produced in Australia for medicinal purposes as part of a national scheme.

While non-medicinal cannabis will still be illegal, similar products for therapeutic use will be listed on the Schedule 8 list – for restricted drugs including morphine – provided the drugs were obtained by prescription from a doctor under state or territory laws, and it was to be used for therapeutic purposes.

Strangely however this hasn't been picked up by any of the major news papers! but it's absolutely legit, as can be verified at the tga.gov.au link

This is great news for Australia and the first crack in the prohibition nationwide.

Australia is still way behind the curve, as special interests still rule the country, like tobacco, and alcohol which suffer if cannabis is legalized.

But show the politicians the TAXES it can generate and suddenly they start drooling...

In other words the politicians are quite willing to compromise their moral stance that cannabis is a drug with no medical uses in exchange for money from taxes.

Only a month or so ago the US Govt at behest of DEA voted to keep marijuana schedule 1 (despite everything we now know about it medically), while cocaine & crystal methamphetamine are schedule 2, ketamine daterape/horse tranquilizer is schedule 3, xanax benzos are schedule 4, and all this in a country with private prison$ and a prison population comprising 22% of the worlds prison population despite just 4% of the worlds population ..... YEAH THERE MIGHT JUST BE A LITTLE BIT OF CORRUPTION!!!

A lot of countries follow the lead of the US, despite what you may hear from their citizens. Not bragging just the truth. Fashion, music being a couple that were obvious.

The US had a lot to do with pot prohibition world wide, so it follows that we lead the way out of this madness.

Despite all the bitching from the sellers here, Prop 64 is going to pass in California. One of the main states. After that it is dominoes falling.

Thank you for your observational agreement. You are spot on with every word you said and I could not agree more. The question then becomes what are we going to do about it, especially when it does not matter who anyofus in any of our countries vote for because all politicians and bureaucrats end up being bought by the rich.

Can you give an answer to this question...?

In theory, it's very simple - the leaders of our nations simply need to stand up and do what we elect them to do (simple example - when the vast majority of people say legalise medicinal marijuana, YOU LISTEN TO THE VAST MAJORITY - you DONT take $xx million from Big Pharma and ignore the masses) and make the appropriate changes to the laws, so that we can be proud of them, so that they're driven by common sense and not corrupt funding, so that they're designed to help people rather than send them down the sinkhole.

In practice, i've got a few million dollars from Mr Big that says "hush hush, just leave the laws how they are, it's easier that way anyway so less work for you ... anyway go and enjoy some fine wine on me"

Queensland GPs will soon be able to prescribe medicinal cannabis for patients under new laws passed by State Parliament on Wednesday night.

The State Government said the Public Health (Medicinal Cannabis) Bill 2016 provided a legitimate pathway for Queensland patients of any age and with a range of conditions to access legal medicinal cannabis products.

The laws give certain specialists such as oncologists, paediatric neurologists and palliative care specialists the right to prescribe medicinal cannabis from March next year.

Other doctors, including GPs, would be able to apply to Queensland Health for permission to prescribe the drug for patients with certain conditions.

The bill was passed unanimously with Opposition and crossbench support.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the legislation was a milestone for those who had campaigned tirelessly for changes.

Where is medicinal cannabis legal?

Federal Government: Medicinal cannabis use is still illegal and only available through trials and limited special access schemes. But, earlier this year, the Federal Government passed legislation legalising the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Queensland: Queensland doctors will soon be able to prescribe it for their patients' treatment. New laws will give certain specialists including oncologists, paediatric neurologists and palliative care specialists the right to prescribe medicinal cannabis from March 2017. Other doctors would be able to apply to Queensland Health for permission to prescribe the drug for patients with certain conditions.

Tasmania: The State Government announced in April specialist medical practitioners would be allowed to prescribe the drug to patients suffering serious and chronic illness from 2017.

NSW: In July, NSW Premier Mike Baird said 40 children in the state with the most severe cases of drug-resistant epilepsy would now have access to a cannabis-based treatment under a compassionate access scheme. NSW is conducting a trial for patients suffering vomiting and nausea as a result of chemotherapy.

Western Australia: The WA Government previously said it would not conduct medicinal cannabis trials until it received the results of testing in New South Wales.

Northern Territory: Not legal.

South Australia: In April, SA Health Minister Jack Snelling ruled out changing the law in South Australia at this stage.

Victoria: It's legal here. It was the first state to pass legislation legalising the use of medicinal cannabis.

You succinctly nailed the scum we're dealing with. They are thieves - plain and simple. Believe me, I know it's lonely being one of very few who call out the fact that government can, and will, NEVER do anything good for anyone but their tonies, lackeys and syncophants.

I'd give you "rep" for your comments if I could.

Now I brace for all the folks who can't handle the truth to come here and challenge my statements with "arguments" that are not arguments at all because they are based purely on their emotions and logical fallacies rather than facts.

If folks haven't determined what truth is (yes - there is only one truth - not many thruths that change like a chameleon depending on what a particular individual wants it to be) - they will never shoulder their responsibility to make this world a better place and it will continue to get worse and worse for ALL.

...all because the great majority of folks are too scared to deal with reality.
