Well this is the first time I have smoked in a while and I found myself messing around on google maps and came across this very interesting looking river valley on Google maps so I got the image from google earth. Anybody recognize the area? Have any cool satellite images?

this is what bothers me most about Google Earth,
images like this that exist for every address in the
USA I've looked up.

The first addy is 420 E Figueroa St Santa Barbara Ca.

the quality of the image is just scary when will
it also include FLIR imaging? after all Google
doesn't need any kind of warrant to image homes.

This second image is the only one I've found with the
actual camera (caught by shadow) in the image, Google
seems to have photoshopped out the vehicle they were
using but the camera is still quite visible.

I believe the camera is a LeicaFlex 360 degree
imaging camera, every 20-30 feet the vehicle
stops in the road & a new image is taken, these
are fused/combined/segued into rather flowing
or continuous images you see here, check the
grill & roof line of the white pickup truck on left.

Just type in any street address followed by the word 'map'
& you'll get the usual Google (assuming you use Google) map,
then switch to the satellite view and drag that tiny orange
man down to the address (indicated by an 'A' here) and you'll
be able to walk down the street looking side 2 side etc.

They have actually gotten some flak, and even some lawsuits for taking pictures of houses. Mainly the ones when they go down private roads. Last week I saw a car with a camera on it rolling down my street. It was plain white, no google emblem like this, same setup though.

Not that the government doesn't take pictures all year, but all the satelite images Google post seem to be taken during the winter months when the foilage is not there, well, in my part of the country anyway.

As for the street view car, I think I read it actually drives down the road shooting 30 fps video and what you see are video still images.

I found this picture of the driver getting out of the car in my town...

i don't think google is gonna pay for FLIR capability for their street view shots. also i don't think FLIR works that well from satellites.

Scary thing is google has been ignoring private road or private property signs and surveying those roads with there camera too. They come down my road and there will be hell to pay.
