Spectrum seemed to kick ass with the caveat being that the first round under the standard spectrum I feel was hindered from the start by the intensity being too high.
I am going to rerun the original spectrum after this round to see at equal distances from the start if there is any notable difference in outcome

Do you have the ability to run them side-by-side? Would be kinda cool to see HGL vs HGL lol. After that round I think it would be great if you ran an intensity test. I can send you some specialized XBoards and you can run them at various heights to find the ideal intensity.

Planning to pick up a 2x4 tent and outfitting with full length channels and a single res with a light divider just for such testing as soon as some funding opens up

That's a beautiful head of lettuce! So the revised spectrum seems to have done well. Am curious if there are any growth characteristics you think should be changed or if you're happy with the results as-is?

Ok, so it is finally happening and I am getting this rolling.
This round brings a new tent where I can finally test "Lighting" as the single variable.
Plants will share the reservoir of nutrient solutions so those parameters are equal between the two sides.
9 plants on each side with a doubled up Panda Film divider
Loaded up the rock wool cubes with their seeds this evening and will report back for day 1 once we have germination.
Lighting this round is 2 HydroGrow LED 42X's. The standard X4 spec on the left and the Customized for OneHitDone spec on the Right.
In the future there will be other models and brands of lights cycling in and out of this tent on my quest to find "My perfect LED Spectrum" grow lamp so stay tuned!

Nice to see your side by side tent all setup and ready to rock! Looking forward to seeing the growth difference between both lights in real-time. Also looking forward to future tests against other brands. We need a lot more growers out there running these types of tests not just for spectral development, but to show the who's who and what's what in this industry. Nice to see you're holding us all accountable

Here we go... Day 1 of the 42X vs 42X 5%-10%-85% side by side.
I seeded a bit heavy so there was some serious competition between germinating seeds causing a bit of stretch. that should sort itself out now that I thinned them down to singles.
Lights are both set at 23" from the Rock Wool cubes

I think it's really cool of you to setup this side by side to show how much difference a small change in spectrum can make. I'm really looking forward to the results of this test.

Day 7 update for the 42X vs 42X Spectral Showdown.
A bit stretchy on the 5%-10%-85% side still.
In all honestly I am leaning towards the stock spectrum as being superior and that round 1 with it was just under TOO high of an intensity out of the gate.
Time will tell!

Day 11 and it's Go Time in the 42X vs 42X spectrum shoot out.
Seedlings were transferred into the NFT system this evening just as in the previous runs on day 11.
Once again I would like to thank HydroGrowLeds for the interest in the science behind this project and ponying up for the equipment to make this happen
The altered spec with less blue is on the right in the seedling pics (5%-10%-85%)
Lights will be maintained at 22" to canopy this round.

Can't wait to see what you do with XB! Next test I think we should do different DLI numbers to find the goldilocks zone with the winning spectrum.
