Pair of 15-year-old boys accused of stealing TriMet bus

Pair of 15-year-old boys accused of stealing TriMet bus

A pair of 15-year-old boys hopped a TriMet bus in Portland for a ride that ended in their arrests early Tuesday in Milwaukie, police said.

Clackamas County sheriff's deputies took the teens into custody at 12:02 a.m. near Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard and Park Avenue, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland police spokesman.

"The driver was wearing some sort of TriMet clothing," Simpson said.

Transit Police officers responded after teens were seen walking through a secure area at TriMet's Center Street Garage at 4012 S.E. 17th Ave.

"As officers searched the lot of parked buses, they located an empty parking place and damage consistent with a hit and run to a parked bus," Simpson said.

Both boys, who are listed as runaways, were booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center, Simpson said.

One boy faces accusations of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, second-degree burglary, criminal trespass, interfering with public transportation, hit and run and criminal mischief. The other boy faces unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal trespass.

Ice Cream Man Attacked Midtown Pretzel Vendor With Bat, Police Say

Ice Cream Man Attacked Midtown Pretzel Vendor With Bat, Police Say

picture.php

An ice cream truck driver tried to settle a turf dispute with a Midtown Manhattan pretzel vendor with a baseball bat to the head, the police said on Tuesday.

On the afternoon of May 12, Mr. Cicero, 40, drove his New York Ice Cream truck to a favorite spot on 54th Street near Madison Avenue, but he found the pretzel vendor already selling from a cart on the sidewalk there, said Lt. Marco Gonzalez, head of the Midtown North Precinct’s detective squad.

Mr. Cicero and the pretzel man, whose name was not released, entered into a standoff, Lieutenant Gonzalez said: “Both of them mutually thought that the other would make it more difficult for them to conduct business at the location.”

The men exchanged punches, and then Mr. Cicero went to his truck, retrieved the bat and hit the pretzel man twice in the head, causing contusions, Lieutenant Gonzalez said.

A witness got the bat away from Mr. Cicero, who then pulled a knife, menaced the pretzel man and fled in the white-and-purple ice cream truck, the police said.

Boy, 5, calls 911 after dad runs red light

Boy, 5, calls 911 after dad runs red light

QUINCY, Mass. —When a 5-year-old Quincy boy saw his father breaking the law, he wasn't going to let the scofflaw get away with it.

Robert was out for a drive with his dad on Saturday when he saw his father run a red light. Robert dialed 911 to report the crime.

"My daddy went past the red light," Robert explained to the dispatcher. "It was in the brand new car, my mommy's car, and we had to go to the car wash, and then he went past the red light."

The boy then put his father on the line.

"I have to apologize … my 5-year-old son," Robert's father told the dispatcher.

"He said you ran a red light," the dispatcher said.

"Oh, no. I apologize," the father said.

This time, dad got a reprieve.

"No problem, as long as everything is all right," the dispatcher said.

Police Mistake Okra For Marijuana

Police Mistake Okra For Marijuana

I'm sure many of you remember this story from a few years back, but I am posting it again because of it's absurdity. I actually choose not to grow okra in my garden because I don't need a "mishap" like this in my life.

The grower was alarmed when the police helicopter swooped low over his property.

Soon, Bartow County, Georgia, deputies -- "strapped to the gills" and with a drug dog in tow -- converged on his doorstep.
They had the grower dead to rights.

Except the plant that the chopper cops had spotted from the air was ... okra.

Dwayne Perry of Cartersville told CNN affiliate WSB that he is none too happy about last week's "raid" conducted by the governor's drug suppression task force.

"Here I am, at home and retired and you know I do the right thing," Perry told the station. "Then they come to my house strapped with weapons for no reason. It ain't right."

He received many calls about all of the police officers at his home, Perry said, and he worries that his reputation in the community may suffer.

The helicopter was combing the area in search of cannabis plants when it came across the five-leaflet okra plant, the station reported. Marijuana plants can have anywhere between one and 13 leaflets per leaf, depending on maturity and health, but they generally have seven or nine.

"It did have quite a number of characteristics that were similar to a cannabis plant," Georgia State Patrol Capt. Kermit Stokes told WSB.

Upon realizing that it had dispatched officers to confiscate a popular gumbo ingredient, the Georgia State Patrol, which operates the task force, issued an apology, both to Perry and publicly.

"If we disturbed them in any manner, that's not our intent. Our intent is to go out and do our job and do it to the best of our ability," Stokes told WSB.

It seems like a humorous mistake, only because no one was hurt, but there have been numerous instances in which innocent citizens have been injured or worse when police acted on bogus information.

That potentiality didn't escape Perry.
"The more I thought about it, what could have happened? Anything could have happened," he told WSB.

Man shoots woman in head with nail gun, then himself, police say

Man shoots woman in head with nail gun, then himself, police say

A man shot a woman with a nail gun several times in the head before using the tool to attempt suicide, Oregon State Police said.
THOMPSON.jpgTroy ThompsonLane County Sheriff's Office

Both survived, but Eve Pagliaro, 31, of Eugene remains in critical condition. Troy V. Thompson, 46, was arrested after being released from the hospital.

Thompson faces a first-degree assault accusation after the roadside incident Wednesday on Oregon 58 east of Lowell, said Oregon State Police Capt. Bill Fugate.

Emergency crews responded after a 911 caller reported a man and woman had attempted suicide with multiple nails stuck inside their heads. Pagliaro and Thompson were rushed to the hospital.

Their car was parked on the side of Goodman Creek Road, and the couple was found outside in close proximity, Fugate said. Investigators determined Thompson shot Pagliaro several times in the back of the head with the nail gun then shot himself "at least once," Fugate said.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the incident was a murder-suicide or if Pagliaro willingly participated, Fugate said. The pair, who were found by passers-by, had rented the nail gun and a compressor in Eugene.

Gator Captured in Lake After Human Body Found in Mouth, Florida Cops Say

Gator Captured in Lake After Human Body Found in Mouth, Florida Cops Say

A 9-foot-long alligator was captured Tuesday night in the same Florida lake where one was found holding remains of a human body in its mouth, officials said.

Lakeland police said the gator's stomach will be examined to determine whether it swallowed any parts of the adult male body, which was found after 1:40 p.m. ET Tuesday.

If not, the lake will be searched again Wednesday for other gators.

Update on Alligator Incident - Victim has not been identified and it is still unk if 9' gator captured last night was involved.
— Sgt. Gary B Gross (@GaryBGross) June 8, 2016

Authorities first received a 911 call from a nearby senior living community where someone had seen the startling sight: an alligator — estimated at between 8 to 10 feet long — clutching the body in its jaws.

"I've got a dead body over here in the lake," the caller said. "Uh, it looks like an alligator is trying to pull it down under."

A spokesman for the Florida Presbyterian Homes along Lake Hunter said the body appeared to be missing an arm and a leg. All of the community's residents were accounted for, he added.

The reptile eventually released the body, and investigators were able to get to retrieve him. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday to determine a cause of death.

Armed robbers thwarted trying to hold up McDonald's where 11 special forces officers

Armed robbers thwarted trying to hold up McDonald's where 11 special forces officers

Armed robbers thwarted trying to hold up McDonald's where 11 special forces officers happened to be eating dinner

Armed robbers bit off more than they could chew when they held up a McDonalds in eastern France whose diners included a group of hungry officers from an elite military force.

Around 40 customers were chomping on their burgers on Sunday evening in the fast food outlet in a shopping centre in Besancon when two men burst in, fired in the air with a shotgun, threatened the guests and ordered staff to open the till, which contained €2,000 (£1,550) in cash.

However, unbeknownst to the robbers, among the terrified customers were 11 off-duty members of the French paramilitary special forces, Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, or GIGN - the Gallic equivalent of the SAS - who were not amused at having their meal of Big Macs and French fries disturbed by the low-level criminals.

Along with the French counter-terror police unit, le RAID, the GIGN are highly admired by peers in Britain and beyond. One former SAS officer, Col Tim Collins, recently described them as "among the most effective anti-terror forces in Europe, if not the world" in an assessment in the Telegraph.

Keeping their cool during the hold-up, the GIGN officers only leaped into action as it ended to avoid any collateral bloodshed.

Edwige Roux-Morizot, the local prosecutor, said: “During the hold-up, the gendarmes didn’t do anything. It was out of the question to use their weapons, as this would have created difficulties and could have placed many people’s lives in danger.”

The highly trained and battle-hardened officers were able to pounce on the first of the two robbers when he tripped on his way of the outlet without firing a shot.

However, they were forced to shoot the other in the abdomen when he pointed a gun at them as he sought to make his getaway with the cash, ignoring their orders to drop his weapon.

Fight over fart leads to blows at Sloppy Joe's

In this bar fight at one of Key West's most famous watering holes, it wasn't a spilled drink or sleazy advance on someone's wife that led to blows.

According to the police report, a fight broke out between two couples this week when someone, who Friday remained unidentified, allegedly broke wind inside Sloppy Joe's, 201 Duval St.

"The argument was due to someone farting," police were told by a man who went to the hospital for a dislocated shoulder after the scrap.

Richard McBride, 53, and his girlfriend Sandra Stoner, 55, both of Naples, said they were caught up in a physical altercation after the argument arose "over a fart," Officer Igor Kasyanenko wrote after last Monday's incident.

The couple said they were drinking with friends at the bar when Stoner traded words with an unidentified woman before getting out of her seat and confronting her in "an aggressive manner," police said.

An unidentified man tried to pull the woman away as others began to step into the dispute, including McBride, who pushed the man, police said. The man retaliated by striking McBride in the face and McBride responded by tackling, Stoner told police.

The unidentified couple took off and police said they couldn't find them. Later at Lower Keys Medical Center, McBride said he didn't want to pursue charges and signed a release form.

577 packages of marijuana found hidden in fake stones

577 packages of marijuana found hidden in fake stones

OTAY MESA, Calif. — More than 575 large packages of marijuana were found hidden in a cargo shipment manifested as “red stone” by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa cargo port of entry Saturday.

The truck first underwent an x-ray examination and then a narcotic detector dog alerted officers to the trailer. A CBP officer then drilled a hole through one of the fake stones and found marijuana.

“My officers not only need to enforce typical import and export laws, but also need to be vigilant for smuggling attempts like this,” said Otay Mesa Cargo Port Director Rosa Hernandez. “Officers used their skill and tools at their disposal to find and seize this large shipment, and then used sledge hammers and jack hammers to remove the packages from the stone shaped objects made from a cement type material.”

In total, 1,619 pounds of marijuana was hidden inside the cement stones, with an estimated street value of approximately $810,000.

CBP officers seized the tractor, trailer and narcotics.

HOOPER — A babysitter in Hooper was arrested Saturday after a bizarre incident in which police allege she held the individuals she was watching against their will for drinking her vodka.

According to the Weber County Sheriff's Office, Brittani Robinson, 30, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful detention, threats of violence, robbery, intoxication, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said Robinson was watching her 15- and 17-year-old nephews and the two nephews invited over friends, where police allege Robinson supplied the group with beer and vodka.

Officials said later in the evening, Robinson noticed that the group had consumed all of her vodka and confronted the teens, “threatening to shoot and kill them.”

Officials allege that Robinson then ordered four of the teens into a garage, where she continued to threaten to assault them if they didn’t pay her back for the vodka.

“She told them they couldn’t leave and they were now her slaves for drinking all of the alcohol,” according to a press release.

Officials said she then forced the teen to take out their wallets and give her all their money or she would “break their faces.”

The teens were held hostage for four to five hours before one of the boys escaped out of a window and called family members, police said.

When police arrived, officials said they found the other three in the garage and also found marijuana and paraphernalia in Robinson’s possession.

Police said that none of the boys were harmed in the incident.

It was unknown Thursday if Robinson had obtained any legal representation.

Drunk woman drives more than a mile with man's body stuck in windshield, police say

A drunk driver who hit a pedestrian continued driving for more than a mile with his body lodged in her windshield before pulling over and walking away, Oceanside police said.

Esteysi Sanchez, 29, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter Monday and is being held on $1.5 million bail after fatally hitting a man walking along Mission Avenue, police said.

The force of the collision caused the victim to smash through the windshield and become lodged on the front passenger seat, but Sanchez continued to drive for about another mile before she pulled over and walked away, authorities said.

Witnesses told KNSD that the man was on the sidewalk and the car jumped the curb and hit him at 6:20 a.m. Monday. They told the station that one of his legs was ripped from his body and landed on the trunk of her car, police told KNSD.

"There's no words to really describe it. I mean, just seeing that up close and personal, it's kind of traumatizing in a way," witness Edwin Esparza told KNSD.

The victim, who authorities said was in his 60s, was a known transient who was going to or leaving a nearby soup kitchen, KGTV reported.

The man’s shoes, wallet, keys and ID — as well as parts of the shattered windshield — were found where he was hit. Paramedics pronounced him dead where the car was found.

Police said Sanchez was found blocks away after witnesses called police and reported seeing her walk away from the car.
