To trim or not to trim ?

Hi. my girls are 4 days into flowering after 5 weeks veg.
I have 12 in a 20 pot WDC with clay pebbles and a 600w HPS.
They are a strain called mornin glory (sativa)
I cant spread them out any more and the undergrowth is pretty thick so would trimming the leaves produce a better yield ?
Also is tying back/down the fan leaves a better option ?

ANY TIPS OR COMMENTS WELCOME :joint:

PS. Is it just me or is there a problem dragging images in a thread ?

i trim the shit outta my girls pics would help me advise you better, id say go for it clean it up thin out the bottom i like to have nice air flow so now and then when fan leafs get too thick ill take out as much as half a garbage back some will say otherwise but i say fuck it it opens up the canopy and improves ventilation btw play with it on your own and see what happins over a few grows IMO get some pics n ill stop by latter n see whats up

I was wondering the same thing... i pruned half my girls at 33 days and i'm leaving the other half as is. You can see the difference in the pics... i picked the plants randomly and they're staggered in my room. They get fed the same nutes... it'll be interesting to see what happens.

try opening up your gallery in a separate window and copying the BB code link from the bottom to add pics btw

I usually clean my stuff up but not after the first 2-4 weeks of flowering, depending on strain's flowering length.

I'm really having problems getting the pics up but heres a link to my pics anyway.

I've decided to 'take the plunge' and trim them tomorrow. When I trim how close to the main stem should I cut ? I have read that its best to leave an inch or so.

Thanks for stopping by and your input..........much appreciated :yeahthats

I cut them right at the base of the stem. Otherwise you permit fungus and pests to live there because there is still a supply of nutes going there ;-)

This is always a highly debated topic. Just remember the leaves take in light so that photosynthesis may occur.

Yes indeed, however I think the main argument is whether to remove them all or not. I think pruning give you the best of borth ;-)

i second spoC 's comment about how much to leave behind...
trimming the leaf stem and leaving an inch behind double the work load ,,, you'll have to trim the same stem off later and if left behind it can certainly leave behind a contaminated stem ,,, take it out the first time around.

Mr Stinky.........Totally agree mate and even though I said I 'bottled it' I did remove a lot of yellow/dead leaves at the bottom of my grow. Still worried about cutting big leaves off though as im not sure where the buds are gonna grow ! .............this is my first ever grow :1help:

Socialist..........thanks .......I vaguely remember photosynthesis at a lesson in High school HAHA.........I know its important but I have a lot to learn and if photo ??? is one of them ... FEK IT... I'll just keep buying the shit my man gets me LOL...........:joint:

Spocannabis........You have some fekin awesome plants growing in your grow diary:nanana: Respect.
I know I'm gonna have to trim them as they are going to be too big for the light to get through (600w hps) and I cant space them out anymore because of the wdc set up.
I also think they may be becoming 'root bound' the roots are protruding out the holes at the bottom where the water drains out.

Anyway folks...........maybe I'm just being stoned and paranoid or enjoying a new found hobby...........either way thanks for your input and keep watching as more pics in 2/3 days after I TRIM THEM !!!.......:joint:

Well i trimmed them as far as I dared but it has really cleared the undergrowth up allowing the light to penetrate.
I'm just going to keep an eye on them now and let them settle after being chopped but if needs be I'll trim a bit more off at the weekend.
ANY ADVICE, TIPS OR COMMENTS WELCOME :chin:

from my experience you can stunt a plants growth by cutting off the leaves. I have read you dont cut off anything that is green. The only time you cut off any leaves is when they are over 50% dead. And you can possibly turn your plant to hermie doing that also. It stesses the plant out way to much I tried it and cut down the quality of my yield down.

Cheers Ganja. the pics ar a few weeks old. I only posted the pics to see if I could do it ....I can WEYHEY !!
Anyway, they have been in flower for nearly 2 weeks and are coming along nicely.
I trimmed quite a lot off them beforeflipping to 12/12 and after 2/3 days they came back with a vengance !
Now that I know how its done I'll post more pics on Tuesday :joint:

Thinning them plants out a bit will help with yield...You wanna trim lower on the plant which will force the top of the plant to focus more on production of excellent bud
