New DWC grow.

I havent grown in DWC in a few years. This one is a clone. Today i will be replacing the water with new water plus grow fertilizer and cal+mag. Hope it starts getting healthier after the feeding.

Hi CB,
You know you'll get better advice if you give more info. Sure looks like it needs more food to me...
Cheers,
JD

So I fed this clone General Organics Bio Thrive grow hydroponic food and some cal+mag. It's not looking a whole lot better but sick plants don't get fixed overnight.

I think if I keep changing the water and feeding it and keep the AirStone going 24/7 instead of only 12 hours on then it should start to look better in the coming weeks.

CB,
I don't do DWC though I have done and will soon be doing hydro top drip. So you were letting your roots sit all night underwater with no airstones running? Is this standard DWC procedure? Seems risky to the roots to me. How do your roots look now?

The whole plant looks a little better today and I changed the glass jar 2 a plastic container. So that the roots don't stay so cold. And the AirStone is on 24 hours now instead of 12 seems to be making a difference for the better.

CB,
I became curious about airstone timing and did my own research. Everywhere I read said run airstone (or airstones) 24 hours a day.

You subjected your roots to non-aerated water for 12 hours every day. I would suggest that you should treat for root rot and never run airstone less then 24 hours. It's the biggest problem with DWC.

I've heard of people getting away with unknowingly plugging their pumps into a photocell without issue. The water should have remained oxygenated during the short night cycles. Still would not recommend.

Would recommend running some kind of disinfectant until plants are big enough to fend for themselves. Don't know how it'd interact with your organic fertilizer though..

I've loved DWC for many, many years now.

Good catch on the oxygenation thing, cannabis plants require a bit more than most plants. Run your pumps 24/7 for best results, especially later on in flowering when oxygen demands increase.

As for nutrients, I don't know anything about the brand you're using. I would recommend looking for others in hydro who are using it, then seeing how this information applies to your situation.

Your roots look good in the photo. I don't see a mention of solution temps, you'll want to keep it between 65F and 69F. I put airpumps in cold a/c air, then use aquarium heaters to keep the temps at 69F.

Some do some don’t. Do you have a ppm meter? I’ve been doing full strength add backs with success. Some recommend 50% strength some plain water and some recommend to alternate. Just have to find what works for you.

If you have a meter try to add back until youve reached your initial ppm. Remember when it’s working right ppm drops and ph increases. When you add back with full strength (your target ppm) it should return to your starting ppm and ph.
