Chronic pain management, thoughts and approaches

Been and am very fortunate in being able to use cannabis and it's extracts almost exclusively.
Would like to share what works for me, and learn how others deal with similar.

Was instructed that one should never attempt to chase pain.
The idea behind effective management, being to attempt
to deal with it preemptively.
Use frozen quick wash and rosin pretty much interchangeably.
When making frozen quick wash, I try keep the contact time
between the cannabis and solvent to 30 seconds or under.
Strains which been effective for me would include bubba, og,
sfv, larry, glue, etc.
The result needs to be decarbed.
Several methods available, but it does need to be done.
This approach was left to us by badkittysmiles;
https://cannapedia.me/Citric+Acid+Extraction
It may also be found under a most informative and
useful sticky under 'Cooking with Cannabis'.
An effective route for me involves mixing the extract
or rosin with a small amount of olive oil.
As little as it takes to be able to thin it enough to be able to
draw it up using an eyedropper or a 1 ml syringe.
I stick it under my tongue, it works quickly.
I find it important to maintain steady even dosing.
Was able to go 4 hours between dosing for a long time.
Have had to make some adjustments there recently.
One thing which has helped me massively, is really
hot water. If I am hurting badly, I grab the extract and
head for a tub of water. So hot, that I damned near
can not stand it. For it to work, it must be not just
hot enough to be uncomfortable- it must be
right on, or just over the border of excruciating.
I sublingual the extract, force myself in the water.
I don't do dabs, never have, but I put two grams
of extract on 10 grams of cannabis.
That I will pound down three bongs hit of
while in the tub. Truth is the water is so hot,
that I really have to focus hard on doing the
three bong hits in order to tolerate the temp.

Put differently, the standard is extract sublingual
on a regular schedule. I can not empathize enough
how important it is to stick to an even schedule
for dosing. One needs to adjust and balance
the amount of extract against both the level
of discomfort, and the amount of time between
dosing.
Break through I deal with using the 'reinforced'
cannabis, or if need be with a tub of hot
water and extract sublingual along with
bong hits of the reinforced cannabis.
Have a variety of 'more traditional'
pain meds within reach, but I
have issues with nausea, and
find cannabis far more kind in the
long run.

Right on the money, gry. :) Thank you for posting this. Keeping ahead of flare ups is awesome. Pain is a long time companion of mine, good to see you're finding workable solutions. :)

After decades of suffering, I found dopamine works rather well. The instinctive reaction to pain is tensing of the muscles. This almost always increases the pain. Staying irritable, angry, 'hurting,' increases the pain over time. So, hit the pain with a line of cocaine (dopamine).

Laugh. That's it, just laughter. Even if you don't feel happy, the physical act of laughing will release dopamine. Super bad pain day? LAUGH!! On my worst pain days, I'm laughing and slapping the counter all day. It makes a HUGE difference.

Yeah, ok, so if laughing shakes your injuries and makes them hurt more it doesn't help as much. About the only downside I've found. :)

Simple prescription to add to any regimen. :)

Thank you Doug. Can't agree more with respect to attitude.
Ran across a paper stating that
eating chilies helped some deal with pain more effectively.
Eat a vegan diet anyhow, so I figured I would give it a try.
It is effective for me.
Anaheim's, pasilla's, and Hatch chilies are now a major
part of my diet, I eat them with every meal.
Everything has it limits of effectiveness, and I
sure am looking for anything thing else to ad.

The latest issue of National Geographic mag has a front page article on pain. I did not read but scanning I did not see the word cannabis or CBD.

No, this isn't my subscription. What trash. With the CBD flying off shelves nationwide, you would think that they would pay attention.

I have a high tolerance for all things cannabis except CBD which they bred out. So when CBD drops became available to me, putting that compound into the equation had dramatic pain results on old joint injuries that the other compounds didn't. Not so much for recent injuries. I am not sure there is much difference to me between the nasty tasting green "full spectrum (probably biomass)" and the clear isolate as far as for pain. That may be from the entourage i am already getting.

If I can ever get the process working, I want to extract oil from good quality hemp flower and maybe combine with the other or process both together. The other thing I want to do is tap into the over-saturated Oregon CBD crystal market somehow and get cheap concentrate for my dawgs (and maybe me too).

Do you find that dopamine creates any constipation?

Ha…a friend said to me yesterday “I know you’re doing better because you’re laughing”.

I responded “I’m doing better because I am laughing”.

Something to be said for that.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Gry and all.
