By the looks of it they quickly found out their "new idea" was a worse version of a very old idea and moved on.

You can easily make fully developed root systems come out of the stem while it's still on the plant, not just some barely there "root nubs". Google "air layering".

If you're bumping this thread because you're having trouble with cloning though I'd skip both of those strats and set up an aero cloner. If you're disciplined about making it clean you'll never need to air layer.
