Do You Live in a State that is Likely to Legalize Marijuana by 2017?

The legalization of marijuana remains a controversial issue as we head into another election year. Many publications, from Rolling Stone Magazine to 24-7 Wall Street, have made predictions about which states will likely legalize cannabis next. Will it be your state?
Much of the information posted has been based on wishful thinking and mainstream rhetoric, but now a 270-page report entitled “The Market for Legal Cannabis Products in the 50 United States” gives some credible predictions for which states will soon legalize marijuana. [1]

<!-- Quick Adsense WordPress Plugin: http://quicksense.net/ --><!-- 300x600 Large -->Foremost in the report is the assumption that Michigan and Nevada will be the front-runners for establishing a taxed and regulated cannabis industry within the next year, while suggesting that Indiana, Ohio, and Texas will probably be three of the last states to make similar reforms.
“With dramatic changes in both public opinion and the legal landscape regarding marijuana, it is clear that future consumption of marijuana itthe U.S. will be under a much different legal regime than in the past. . .While we do not yet know what this would imply for both state and federal laws, we believe a serious effort to review the available data with numerous indicators could provide us with much better information than what was available in the past.”
Other states which show promise for legalizing soon include: Arizona, Maine, and Missouri. And as much as California has huge market potential for a cannabis industry, it seems unlikely that it will upgrade its legislation beyond current medical marijuana allowances for some time – certainly, not before 2017.

Florida, a state where pot proponents have initiatives to legalize both medical and recreational marijuana in 2016, was also ranked as having a high market potential—but analysts believe the state will only allow medical marijuana for the next several years.
According to the report, Rhode Island and Vermont will be the first two states in the nation to legalize a recreational marijuana market by way of state legislature.
The authors of the report said that they believe their predictions to be “sober and realistic,” but they also don’t account for wild cards, as can happen in any social change. For example, if California can find a way to whittle down their 12 initiatives and present a single proposal to the voters in 2016, the state could easily legalize a recreational market with ease.
Regardless of which states legalize first, it is clear the nation has met its tipping point, and the legalization of marijuana for both medicinal and recreational purposes is inevitable.
Overview:

  • Michigan and Nevada will be the front-runnersfor establishing a taxed and regulated cannabis industry within the next year.

  • Indiana, Ohio, and Texas will probably be three of the last states to make similar reforms.

  • Other states which show promise for legalizing soon include: Arizona, Maine, and Missouri.

  • Analysts believe Florida will only allow medical marijuana for the next several years.

  • Rhode Island and Vermont will be the first two states in the nation to legalize a recreational marijuana market by way of state legislature.

Baked Alaskan

The medical vote has been close these last few votes in South Dakota. I might be goin back to Alaska this summer (fingers crossed) but will be back in SD for the vote.

If the duck dynasty posers would tell ppl in SD to vote yes, it would pass 100%. This state is further right than Rush Limbaugh.

No chance for rec.

fuck, no! Tennessee had one of the first legal medical pot programs in the nation years ago, but let the law lapse when the feds quit supplying the weed. since then, we have gone from a Democratic governor to a string of GOP assbites that all think that medical pot users "just want to get high". the only notable Democrats in the state all represent big cities/counties containing big cities. our brain-dead lt. gov, asshole Ron Ramsey, says "NO" to everything proposed. he is a proto-typical far-right pol that sucks up to the religious right folks that believe that if you are sick, God wants you to suffer...

If their GOD wanted us to suffer cannabis would not exist!

Wasn't it their GOD that looked around after creating all things and said "everything is good"?
What man has the audacity to say that what their GOD created is bad?

Gotta love them illiterate BIBLE thumpers!

I hope to see the eastern half of the US, & especially the southern quad, go full stride & tell the Fed to get bent.

Christ, they want $400 bucks for that report. All you dealers ought to get into consulting.

Anyway, yeah, my state, Vermont, is on the list. However it is not a done deal, still a lot of opposition and uncertainty about what will actually will end up in the bill. The legislation on the table is pretty comprehensive, even in advance of Colorado and Washington because it allows a certain number of "cannabis lounges" as well as retail stores and home growing.

We'll see soon. Senate Judiciary has the bill now and they are running around the state doing public hearings. The chair of Judiciary has always been pretty much of "no" vote but has recently come around to a more reasonable position. The two Senators, one Democrat and one Republican, who wrote the bill also are on that committee so they will vote yes. One other is a Progressive from Burlington who will vote yes. The fifth member of that committee will probably vote no. So pretty much for certain there will be at least a 3 to 2 yes vote. They want the bill out by the end of the month. Then it is on to the rest of sausage grinder.

I will be very surprised if we don't see 75%+ vote for Milegalize on the ballot. Legalize is a buzzword you hear often here, even in non weed related circles. It is everywhere in the glove.

Same in Florida. 60 something % voted yes, and didn't pass. Amusement parks, beautiful beaches, and legal weed....it would be a money bomb. They must be complete invalids, starting with Tricky Rick.

It ain't Tricky Rick. It's BABY KILLER RICK as well as a few other crimes against humanity he is known for. Look up the way he relaxed regulations for a hospital that had four times the average mortality rate for heart operations on infants. Instead of shutting them down, he relaxed the regulations when they made $100,000 donation to his PAC and a matching contribution to the Florida Republican Party.
