couple arrested for child abuse

I cant see mj being the problem here. The parent that slept well the kid ran around the house is the problem.

He could have gotten into much worse and could have really been hurt.
You cant just take a nap and let him wonder around the house.

The other thing Im curious of is it says the Rice treat was in a cupboard now either the guy is totally brain dead and left it low enough for the kid to reach, or the kid climbed onto the counter to get into the cupboard. Which could have lead to serious injuries in itself.

I saw the story on Nancy grace she is the one who claimed that the child almost died. No false info on my part. She is one of the worst she really believes cannabis is the devil's weed lol

Very bad situation, but WHAT THE FUCK! 10 YEARS..YEAH FUCK YOU! It sounds like the adults didn't know what the kid ate to make him act weird, cause if they knew he ate pot, i really don't think they would have taken him to the hospital.....all in all, its still weed, but I dont want my 2 year old to even smell it burning....But 10 years, thats complete bullshit! like someone else said above, what would happen to me if i took my kid to the hospital after drinking my some of my wine, or even bleach? Would I get 10 years,? Fuck no I wouldn't! And Neither should they!

Bad move going to the hospital
I fall asleep all the time, and my kids get into things they shouldn't. I would bet $ it happens to every parent at some point(s) in time. Easy to judge from afar, especially if you have no kids or your spouse is the one really doing the child rearing. My 2 coppers.

I would call BS too brother, it may sound cruel but knowing what I've learned about cannabis I'd let him wait it out at home and do the typical tough love parent thing and say "what did we learn?". Mostly this sounds like neglect/negligence to me. I know I was pretty fuckin' sneaky and mischievous as a kid but these so called parents should know way better than that. Not to mention I could go off on a kick about how child obesity is so bad that they should've taught the child strictly not to touch sweets/junk food til they got parents permission. I mean any number of parental techniques or what have you could have prevented this. Because of what I have learned about cannabis I really don't believe it could have harmed the kid. On the other hand it really concerns me if something this silly happens so easily then how are they to continue raising a child in a successful manner? Also my concern is for the kid I really hope it doesn't turn him off to cannabis of any idea of it mostly because it would be truely sad if such a person was truely traumatized by it and was left mentally/emotionally damaged because the parents didn't bother to put their "treats" somewhere inaccessible to the child.

As a parent, I/we never let the youngins runaround unsupervised, thank goodness he didn't get into the gun cabinet. I agree, everything should be put up. Thats why they make safety latches for cabinets and drawers. We even put a key lock on our bedroom door. Yeah, there were other reasons too but we wont go there. As in most areas of life to me, there are penalties if you cant keep your act together. Maybe the child should be sent to a foster home, I dunno. My opinion tho. The parents need to get their act together, one way or another, one reason or another.

The parents should be penalized for endangering a minor, neglect.

Do you think the kid is going to operate heavy equipment after eating the brownie? Where's the endangerment?

I recommend to never consume drugs in front of children or even the same house, always keep any drugs in a locked medicine cabinet. This includes all tools used to consume as well. Children ARE CuRIOUS, they like finding stuff and putting it in their mouths, touching it, or crushing it. It's natural.

When you were a kid did your parents smoke pot in front of you? Mine did and I actually started smoking pot much latter than my friends who's parents didn't. So what are you basing your recommendation on? A hunch?

don't even have kids!

Wow another person who doesn't have kids talking about raising kids. I recommend you have experience about something before you start talking out of your ass.

4 kids and I have never fallen asleep well they roamed the house.
When they where younger I would gate the bedroom and take a nap but that was a childsafe room and the had no way out.

Nobody should take a nap well a 4 yr old wanders around.

Edit: I dont think the parents should be jailed because of the MJ, But the kid needs better supervision at least child proof the house .

Actually it is, I found every stash my parents had before I was out of elementary school, porn, collectible coins, weed, all Christmas presents, etc....

Little kids are search machines

It seems there is some confusion on if it was even their kid-- Who knows, this guy might have had that in the cupboard and forgot about it...then the wife says yes to watching someones kid...
Not saying that is the case, but we don't really know what happened yet--
That being said...you are absolutely right, there should have been some supervision-- But as a Parent, I know that sometimes when the kid crashes out...that is prime time for a little nappie yourself...but sometimes they wake up before you-- lol

Any parent can think of at least one time when their kid almost got into a shit load of trouble because they took their eye off of them for a few seconds, or took a short nap. So easy to call people bad parents.

how many times did u go missing in the store and mom is ready to bite your head off for running off. The next thing you know someone just nabed your child. Sometime kids just cant be watched all the time. I myself would not of had the treat even available for my son to get but Kids will do things even though they know they will get in trouble its part of the human DNA

The 10 year thing won't happen, BTW-- Stuff like this always projects the Maximum Sentance for whatever they done-- But that is contingent on Mitigating or Extenuating Circumstances--
This is (without really knowing the facts) filled with mitigating circumstances-- My guess is these ppl will get probation, with some kind of BS classes..cuz that makes the County $$--

I saw a guy on Oprah, raped his daughter from age 4 to 12 and gets 44 months, the couple who's kid had a Blood Alcohol Level of .364....close to actual death, they got no charges...wtf, 10 years, yeah, the dad is a dumbass for not letting the kid just sleep it off, but cannabis has almost 0 toxicity, you know that its actually hard to kill a rat with THC...so 1 Rice Crispy Treat wouldn't have caused death, maybe since the kid has had his mind expanded he'll see how full of shit the justice system can be in this country. Which was more traumatic--- him thinking he was a cartoon for a couple hours or people in the ER telling his parents that he was going to die, and then seeing them behind plexiglass in prison?? What are the benefits of taking away a 4 year old from both parents? BTW, the kid is sober right now...and he's still alive, and not hurt, other than sleeping somewhere else for a few years. I call Bullshit....red flag.....right fucking here, mark it, dude.

A child proof house? Who are you the Martha Steward police? So if parents don't have locks on toilets I guess we should imprison them? If there is a shed in the back yard and the kid gets into weed killer or rat poison prison for the parents?

If the kid is 14 and raids the liquor cabinet, prison for the parents?

How about if people are free to procreate, I am free NOT to pay for their kids! So leave the kids with the parents and quite taxing the rest of the country for your orphanages cages for bad parents.

There are NO POSITIVE RIGHTS. We don't have a right to food, shelter, clothing, or healthcare we must procure those items for ourself. There are only NEGATIVE rights, such as the government CAN NOT impinge on your right to free speech. I have no right to force you to provide "Positive Rights" for me and you have no right to tax me in order to provide those comforts to your chosen class.

ddrew..that just makes you a smart kid. If I want to truly hide something... my kids wouldn't find it with a GPS and a guide dog...If you can't hide from kids how can you hide from cops (since both are roughly the same intellectual levels)?

I have kids and love my pot...they have never seen it in my home and won't til they're of a more understanding age. As a parent I have to say that your kid comes first and panic is usually the initial first reaction to some situations...this is how I can see why these people chose to freak and hit the hospital...that's the only good thing i have to say about them. That being said...

1) I tend to believe that majority of people who have smoked pot and at least read SOME literature about it, should know that YOU CAN NOT OD FROM CANNABIS!. They should have known enough to just stay put watching the kid and let him ride it out...who the fuck was there for this poor kid when the munchies set in?

2) You never know when someone is going to pop over for a visit or some salesman comes to your door...any idiot with a stash should know to keep it out of sight when you're not using it. Unless you live a "Scarface" life with 30+ mercenary guards where obviously you'd be a little more relaxed about a bit of weed on your table...KEEP YOUR FUCKING STASH HIDDEN!

3) I don't care whether they were the parents or babysitters or medical MJ users....although we all here believe and know Cannabis to be a good drug, it is still a drug and should be treated with the same kind of moral gloves as other scrips/homeopathic medicines when in the company of minors...with the exception of its usage on kids for actual medicinal reasons through proper legal MMJ channels, KIDS SHOULD NOT EVEN BE AROUND WHEN YOU ARE PARTAKING! It is a very simple matter to send them outside and lock the door or just go outside yourself for a joint n' jog...you can and it's a good thing to educate your children about cannabis and to a degree other drugs to help them make proper informed decisions for themselves....just wait til kids actually start showing some signs of real maturity.

These people vaulted themselves to the top of the idiot ladder in many ways, however, it was Cannabis - not any other of the numerous legal but ACTUALLY deadly products it could have been....10 Years would be ridiculous but I do agree with the endangering the child bit, solely because if they don't pay attention to their pot habits it's only a matter of time til the kid gets into something else their into or left laying around (alcohol, scrips, cleaning products etc..-as other members have also mentioned earlier) and really does die...they deserve to be punished but the kid certainly doesn't and taking his parents (if they are) will do this. Make each parent take alternating turns serving 2 months of weekend jailtime where they taste the laws "justice" (lol ya right whatever) and their kid is never without a parent...I'd also give them parenting classes...sometimes smaller measures accomplish greater tasks

:wave:peace out
