When to top?!

hi guys,

the girls are currently under 200w cfl and are 15days old..
and just transplanted in 3l pots for the next 4-5weeks before transplanted again in final 25l and thrown under 600hps

so my question is when would you guys suggest to top the plants? i suppose it’s too early now or?

You already have branch growth at the first two nodes so chop away at the top whenever you feel like it. What shape are you going for?

hi pdx,

i dont know to be honest��4-5 nice colas per plant?.. this is my first topping attempt .. i know i want to end up with an even canopy in a 4x4 tent with 4 plants.. maybe thinking scrog style for easier branch supports

4-5 nice manageable branches to be precise. instead of word “colas”

If you want a nice big bush and not a tall plant, you can start topping around the 3rd to 4th node. That thing is growing great so you can easily top right now. Nice plants broski

I would also suggest that once the 2 main branches start forming, LST the plant to let those massive side branches turn into colas too..

I pinch around the third or fourth node, as plant grows I super crop the branches to keep height even. I don't tie, I just keep breaking them at the right spot to drop them down to roughly the same height. Quick and easy and roughly similar to tying or scrogging.

hi mate.. that’s what i was thinking, thanks for te advice.
that sounds like a good idea- top, then train/ bend them

il give it a try later

I did an autoflower over the summer where I cut it just above the 4th true node and cut off the branches from the 1st true node and ended up with 6 nice branches with fat flowers on top. If you want to get fancier theres stuff like mainlining https://www.growweedeasy.com/manifold

i still haven’t tried to top autoflowers, too much respect i would say..

but mainlining looks a lot of time consuming technique.. i first give it a try the old classic toping method
