Most decent aquarium heaters have an adjustable thermostat but you need to double check temps with a thermometer just to be sure as the thermostat can be off by a few degrees.

Some of the small ones are preset with no thermostat for higher than 70 which is too much, i still use them because they can. E cheaper bit hooked to a temp controller only cus I already have one, and I can hook multiple units to it in multiple dwc buckets and it has a display, and i know if the sensor in one bucket reads 65-68 the rest of them are about the same.

I prefer RDWC now as one good heater takes care of one system. I use the heaters for like 1/4 of the year and it doesnt even drop below 20F here, i cant imagine - digits. Id have to insulate the heck out of my grow trailer lol.

Res temps are critical, too warm and the oxygen from the air stones doesn't disolve as well and suffocates the plant , and you can start culturing nasty bacteria like pythium and get root rot that thrive in warm water.

To cold and growth will slow down if not stop all together.

More importantly though the sudden and extreme fluctuations in the water/room temps can stress/shock the plant.

Winter is a great time though IMO because a $20-30 25w heater in your case is way better than living some places where its hot all the time and having to run an expensive chiller all day.

Also you wanna make sure the roots dont touch it but Ive never really had a problem if they do.

I agree with lost, even a cheap $10 digital thermometer/humidity meter will keep track of your highs and lows, fairly accurately. Just as important.

The cool thing about the heaters is you can let the room temps drop if you want and really bring out the fall colors in you plants, without the roots getting too cold :)

Think of it like you have live fish in your tank, they need a stable environment or die in no time. Heating the whole house to do it can get very costly and uncofortable..

Transplanted 2 of the 3 skywalker ogs into the small dwc bubbler thing. They are starting to get a little hungry I think. Theyve had nothing but water so a little calmag will prob help em out. Since taking the clones I kept them under a 14 watt cfl until they rooted out of the rockwool. Now that they are in the box and under real light with a bit of food we should see significant growth pretty soon. Installed a fan at the bottom of the box as well to push more fresh air in and keep temps cool.

Closet plants looking good. Hoping for a male

Closet plants looking good. Hoping for a male

Got the dwc tub in the closet and going into week 2 I'm really hoping the purple (big one) is a male so I can cross it with the skywalker og. Ive never heard of a GDP and Skywalker og. Threw 2 more lights in there as well. Both are ones I made myself. One is a Vero 29 5000k with 2 Cree xpes also 5000k. The other is a Cree cxb3590 3500 k with 6 Cree xpe 4000 k. Definitely helping them get even bigger as they stretch.

Ive had several pc fans fail in their day and some hurt me more than others. Recently I had 2 fail on the same light. Must have came around just in time because she was very hot only one fan running. I got these rosewill 120mm 12volt 0.16ma. There was a 4 pack on Amazon for 14.99. Put two of these on the light bar I use in the closet. https://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?albumid=79235&pictureid=1917593

I built a 1 ft x 1 ft x 2ft box just to test philips 14w 3k screw in led,s
4 of in 6 inch centres.
Then decided i wanted a 6.5 k in centre so took box out built a 15 inch square by 2 ft and put the 6.5 k centre and adjusted the 3k,s out slightly i think i have 51 w per sq/ft
As for height i was too close at first like 6 inches lol
1 ft next seemed ok .
Then i made pyramid reflectors , like pyramid with the top cut off
because the screwins throw a lot of light almost horizontal.
just looking for 100 efficiency.
Airflow = panasonic whisper fan FV-17CUT3 sucking from above the led,s then 4 inch ducted outdoors runs cool even with outdoors 28/30c as my neighbour runs his AC 24/7 and ive built the box in a cupboard that is up against our adjoining cold wall with a 1 inch gap :biggrin:A

The led choice

The led choice

Hey andyo. I feel ya on the hps/mh. Dude they have never failed me once. I ran a 250/400/600 mh hps interchangeable light. Just a cheapy from Amazon I bought years ago. Had 2 runs with it before I ever heard of the led stuff. Results were as expected. Hps are tried and true there is no denying that at all. I almost brought it back out because of super cold temps where I'm from. The led stuff ive built for my closet/flowerzone are incredible. Barely notice a spike in utility bills. The Vero 29s are at 1500 M.A. (veros can run substantially higher and are more efficient the higher you run them. The cxb3590 are powered at 1200 M.A. (which isnt even 50 watts) . The screw in LEDs I am using are not tested by me and I planned to use the box as a veg zone but i actually had one of them burn out on me last night and ive only had it a month or so. Time will tell. Theyre cheap and i wanted to do a micro grow to see the potential behind them and if running 55 watts give or take would get me a gram per watt. I ran 2 3590s and my custom light bar which is various Cree xml2s ,xpe ,photo reds, luxeon royal blues. In total was about 150 watts and I nabbed 130 grams dry and I feel it couldve been better if I had taken better care of ph, and environment stuff. Check my albums to see my builds. Any questions id be more than happu to hit you with the data. Much love playa
