Screw in LED microbox.

Hey people. Ive checked a few threads about these little guys and they seem pretty cool and if anything will be a sweet little place to veg since my primary grow is in the closet. https://www.icmag.com/ic/album.php?albumid=79235&pictureid=1917338

(1) 8watt @5000k (1) 9watt @3000k (2) 9watt @ 5000k (2) 8 watt @2700k ××× I believe its 51or2 watts and a pc fan on top to suck out the shitty air.
<<I have a 14.5 watt @ 5000k that I will most likely throw in there but as for now ill only use a few of them to make sure I dont burn my clones. (Which is my biggest fear using these less)

Some clips of the skywalker og. Its been about 5 days and they havent shriveled or escaped so I think they are going to be ok to transplant very soon.

^^^Thats a pic of the 2 I have in the closet. Messed up and only had 1 solo of hydroton left so I put em both in the same cup. Lol. I know better but I know for sure the smaller one is the skywalker og and the bigger one is a rando that was shipped as a gift. No idea what they are but i have like 50 of em. The skywalker was the last one. I'm lucky it popped and is still alive after being bullied by this other one in the tub with it. Lol. So I I took 3 nice clones and when they take I will most likely stick em into a small tub ive built for a dwc doo-dad. Anyone know how far I should keep that canopy from my canopy? Lol. If it goes well id like to maybe just pull individual runs along with the closet but for now ill use it to get these skywalkers pumped up while the 2 in the closet are switched over to 12/12. Really debating on some sort of LST or tie down because its gonna stretch pretty bad I think.

Ive had previous luck with this tub but never an entire run. Just usually use it to veg. Think ill end up running an entire through and through just to see what I can do with some screw ins

^^this is the outside of the box. Kinda ugly but im working on a hood to hide the wires but its not really an issue where I live.

Hanging in there

Hopefully you guys hang in there with my project and maybe offer any advice if you want until I make enough posts to actually sh9w puctures. Below is a warning out there to anyone whos used cheap thermal paste.
https://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?albumid=79235&pictureid=1917369

Totally fried my latest Vero 29 build because i decided to save like 4 dollars. Dont do it. Buy the arctic stuff. Because the cheap crap said it would hamdle the temps and obviously didn't and say they will not refund my Vero but only the paste. Lol. I guess thats one I had to learn on my own.

New amber cob from bridgelux

New amber cob from bridgelux

I got the amber cob from rapid led made by citizen to see what it was all about. Its 34.6 volts 2160 ma max. Its supposed to be a hos color or resemble one. I havent lit it up but afyer the thermal epoxy settles ill show ya what it looks like. I'm using a chinese driver I found on the cheap. 40-60 volts. 1200 ma. Will be perfect for this cob I think.

Thanks guy. Ill probably post a few unnecessary updates to get the rep up or whatever so people wont have to click pictures. Lol. Stay tuned.

Pc fans came in today.

Ive had several pc fans fail in their day and some hurt me more than others. Recently I had 2 fail on the same light. Must have came around just in time because she was very hot only one fan running. I got these rosewill 120mm 12volt 0.16ma. There was a 4 pack on Amazon for 14.99. Put two of these on the light bar I use in the closet. https://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?albumid=79235&pictureid=1917593

Any ideas on this?

Any ideas on this?

I have noticed a few leaves are curling/folding? Idk exactly how to describe it. Its not everywhere on the plant. Just random leaves. Lights are far enough away I'm 100% certain on that. But my ppms are usually low. Last time I fed it was around 600 ppm. Im about to move into 12/12. Does anyone know if I should up the food? Why this things curling all weird? Temps are cool. Usually between 60-70.

Hey titty

How much solution are you holding in that tote? From the pic it looks like only a few gallons if that, which would lead me to believe your PH\PPMs is fluctuating up and down too fast. A little bit is actually good, for a better range of nutrient uptake, but too much and too fast, and your plant will be unhappy. And start to show signs like that.

As the plant gets bigger it will just get worse (i'm guessing she was happy until now?), especially if your not able to stabilize it with more water, or do more frequent res changes. Especially in flower.

600 is actually pretty high for veg, with DWC less is usually better, I shoot for 500 unless the strain really wants more. If I had a low volume capacity, I would go even lower possibly 400, to limit the spikes incase the plant drinks more but eats less.

You can tell about what the plant needs by checking the PPM levels before res changes. You said 600 but was that the waste waster or the fresh solution? If its the waste and you originally fed say 500 then ya wanna back off. If you added fresh at 600, and your waste comes out at 700 or more that's way to high and your plant will lock out and def let you know.

You know you hit the sweet spot when it drinks the solution down, and your right around your target level still. If the PPM is higher, that means feed a little less, if its lower, you can push a little more.

It appears you have a few inches all around the tote, I would try to find another one that is a little wider and fills the space more if possible, just for the extra nute solution, which will buffer it from fluctuating as much. Will be a little bit more stable that way.

If you had room for an extra external res you could recirculate with more volume, but for a micro setup like that I would just always have fresh buckets of solution ready to change out, and do it more often.

EDIT: Oh one more thing, your temps sound good as far as keeping the res cool, but from what I have been researching with LED\SILs you want to up the temps to like 75-80+ (to make the leaf temps a little higher and transpire more, like the infrared does with HIDs), which would possibly warm your res up too much and cause root rot. Its always something to deal with isn't it? ;)

Well my initial ppm of my tap is like 60. I dont factor that into the 600 as stated so I guess its more like 540ish give or take. Its drinking pretty fast and the ppms after a couple days drop pretty quick. Should I keep my res full for the most part? Im used to just filling and then checking up a few days later. i really shouldnt be surprised since im not in the closet daily. And regards to how it looked, yeah man. It was lookimg just fine until a week or so and the leaves are getting weird. I will try to lower the nutes a bit and see how that does. The temps here now are like super cold. I checked the temps while lights are off amd at night, and i saw that they were substantially lower than ambient temps. The house I live in is kinda cold and the closet has a draft coming from somewhere cold. Lol. So im thinking maybe the fluctuation is doing something too? Again. Idk. Tricky stuff this is because with every space ive lived ive had to grow in either an attic where I deal with high/low temps. Basement ,where humidity issues can make or break. Seems like leaves curling, or possibly yellowing or whatever can be 1 of 100 things. Lol. Its been a fantastic hobby tho. I will post and see what happens after I mess with ppms. The temps here are -20 so I'm breaking out a little space heater that will warm up the room my closet receives air from at night. In the winter im honestly thinking about breaking back out the hps on like the 250 watt ballast just for that warmth I think the girls are looking for ya know. While leds are wildly efficient. With every strength leaves some sort of weakness. Thanks for the input guy. I appreciates it

I filled the res. Came in while lights were off to snap a pic and check the temps.

NP, ya just urls, I think you need 50 posts before you can do attachments\pics? Otherwise you can just click on the go to advanced button when making posts, and a separate window will pop up to upload pics. That's how I always do it...

I didn't realize you were in the closet, thought you were flowering her in the micro box at first. Bigger res/buckets is always a better option if possible, overall more stability and less chances of ups and downs occurring too quickly. Keeping light out is important too.

Ya that sounds pretty cold, great for HPS though i know. Space heaters can suck massive energy, I always feel like HPS kills 2 birds with one stone in those kinda times, like you might as well run em. Then switch on the heater like you say just at night. I use an oil filled radiator type, and sometimes use the space heater in a pinch.

I been running HIDs so not used to the learning curves of LED yet, but been studying up while I gather materials to build new fixtures to try and replace most my lighting equipment in the next month. I keep hearing without the infrared you need to supplement heat especially in winter. I've vegged here and there with SILs over the last year or 2 a bit, but usually use t5s.

I have been mostly running DWC and RDWC for the last 5 years though. Keeping the water level the same as possible keeps the plants healthy. I try to stay like an inch under the net pots but sometimes it drops lower, which is ok to some extent. Its when the level doesn't drop at all you know you have even bigger problems, that I won't even bring up. Letting roots dry out by going too low is a big no no though.

Ive had plants suck the buckets completely dry and still got lucky and they lived, stunted them for sure. Some didn't.. The more solution and the less problem's i've had as a result.

Sometimes you can have decent looking roots, but if you reach in there and pull on them they just pull out easily in clumps. I try not to mess with the roots as much as possible anymore so they don't get balled up either, which can cut off the oxygen from the airstones too. The holes you cut/poked in the solo cup might be sharp and can saw into them as well. With DWC I've learned to pay more attention to the roots though than the actual plant, because the plant can appear normal for sometime after you have root issues.

When DWC is going smooth its the best. :)

I would test your res temps too if you can, too low and the growth will slow down\stop, and take longer to "wake up" the plants after the lights turn on. I actually have to keep aquarium heaters in mine during the winter, to keep the temp up to around 68. Barely need a chiller unless its the middle of summer, which I normally just take off to do room upgrades\deep cleaning, and do a little outdoor run.

Yeah I guess i didnt clarify because the title says box. Lol. Thats my bad. Im gonna put up some stuff about the closet as well since the box thread isbgoing slow. But the 3 cuts of the skywalker are ropting finally so it will speed up quick. Ive never put a chiller or warmer in my stuff at all. Its just worked. Does this effect the outcome of my plants substantially? Ive had like 3.5 indoor runs and the only one that wasnt good was the soil run. Lol. Yeah what I run in the closet are all Diy led stuff ive soldered and assembled myself. You should dip your toes and build a Vero 29 unit and run it at 1500 or 1750 ma. And you will be amazed how it produces. But as far as the res heater.? Im gonna look into ordering one because I feel like with the cold gettimg even...colder, the leaves fold and get dumb. Hopefully I figure this out. :)

I should ultimately be cleaner in here as well. I smoke herb and occasionally the cigarette or two while I mess around. Ive read that cleanliness is very important but I kinda let it go by the wayside

Are you checking the environment in there?

Id advise getting a cheap constant readout sensor like an aircomfort so you can see a graph of the temp and humidity..

Small boxes can get very dry and stressful for plants..
