Super Box DWC Blueberry 420 CFL/LED

Hey all,
This is my second grow in the superbox. The first grow I tried to squeeze 4 autos. Needless to say for my first grow in 17 years the end result wasn't the best. I still managed some decent buds but if I had a lot more experience under my belt things could have turns out better.

I learned a lot during the grow but still much more can be attained. I took some things from the first grow and adapted my box to better serve my needs.

Tons of heat and humidity issues with the Super Grow Box. Also the smell was something fierce. It's almost as though there was no carbon filter at all.

I am about a month into this grow so I will post what I have so far in future posts. As I said I'm still learning and any good advice will be gladly welcomed.

For those that didn't read my intro, I'm a disabled Vet medicating for personal use and stealth growing is the best way for me going forward. I tried medical but it's too expensive for my pain and depression levels.

modifications

I threw some legs on the box in order to get it off the carpet. I also sealed up all seams with silicon and aluminum ducting tape.

As I said before the smell was fierce and I needed to do something ,so I junked the odorsok and ducted out the back into a proper 4 inch filter. Can smell a thing. I was worried about pushing air through the filter but I get good enough air flow that it works for my needs.

germination

germination

Germination was simple. Soaked Rockwool cube in pH'd RO, then drained. Sowed seed directly into cube then placed cube into single layer of rinsed rocks and filled surrounding area with rinsed rocks.

In this Rez I keep 2 gal of water at any given time. I started off with 5.8 pH'd Filtered water at 80ppm. Also added 2mL/gal of hydroguard.

The water level stays just below the bottom of the net pots allowing the oxygen Bubbles to pop and jump up keeping the Rockwool moist enough to germinate the seed.

nutes

nutes

Once the first few sets of leaves started to yellow it was time for nutes. I started technaflora nutes at 50% strength. This includes BC Boost, BC grow, sugar daddy, CaliMagic, B-1 Red, and Root 66.

Humidity is always trouble in this box. Smdh. Temps in the 80'sF RH 20-30. pH 5.5-6.2, Rez temps 62-69F

lollipop and defoliation

lollipop and defoliation

As the title states here we go. I also have some brown residuals around the inside if the res. I went ahead and flushed with 6mL 30%H2O2+ 2gal RO H2O. (The water was in the garage and probably 50F. I should have took this into consideration prior to adding)

I came back after a few hours of flush to find Blue completely wilted. Shortly after the Rez was refilled with warm nute mix (60F) she perked back up. Dodged a bullet. I wasn't sure if it was too much H2O2 or the cold water or both. Thoughts?

canopy ScroG and LST

Just been working on LAST and Scrog. Also learning pinch and twist method (don't remember the technical term). Seeing what branches feel like that can be manipulated and those that can't. At this point it's all learning curve in my eyes.

LED swap

LED swap

So temps are up in the 90's and RH is in the teens. I bought a small humidifier but it hasn't done much. I added a second small fan to try and cool things down more to no avail.

Athos, on a different form, suggested I look into LED and aslonto check out this microgrow form. Best modification I made to my growth was o come to this forum.

I couldn't deal with the temps any longer so I pulled the trigger on a E39 80W 3000K LED corn bulb to replace my E39 200W 2700K CFL corn bulb. Temps instantly plummeted. I'm now down in the mid 70'sF and humidity is up to 35%. Still not ideal but I'll take my wins where I can get them.

There's a reflector up top but next grow I am planning on using more direct down fire LEDs

flower

flower

Finally made it to flower. Flushed with 4tsp florakleen + 2gal RO pH 5.5 23ppm. Some brown stuff in the Rez but the hydroguard keeps it in check as far as I can tell. Switched nutes to flower and worked some more on getting the canopy how I want it before buds form.

Nice, what about light intensity? how does it compare (at least to the naked eye) to your previous CFL bulb?

Ran out of space in the last post. Some more LST. With the low humidity the leaves hold manipulated form longer than normal. Still can't get the humidity high enough.

Light intensity isn't ideal but it's brighter than the CFL and gets better coverage. Better penetration. I can no longer work in the box without glasses.

unexpected stretch

unexpected stretch

Well...thought she was done stretching and man was I wrong. Hey at least now I know for next time. I couldn't find any detailed grows from this mix so didn't know exactly what to expect. Now that I know shes a late bloomer I can keep the canopy lower next round.

All in all everything is good. Drinking a gallon a day. When solution drops below 1200ppm I add a gallon of nutes. Starting to thicken up and I've seen some calyx forming.

I'm keeping a close watch with her being so close to the light. Luckily this light runs really cool and no light burn or stress. Slightly stressed. The edges on the very closest curled up slightly. And a few leaves are lightening in contrast.
