Ogenko's 1200W DWC Kush Disaster

hello fellow icmag'rs
been lurking in these forums for awhile now and ave learned so much
and been so entertained =)
thought i'd give a shot at a grow myself

equipment:
HHut Deluxe (seems to be non-toxic)
2 Lumatek 600's with Hortiluxe EYE Bulbs
an Ostberg/eclipse 6" 636 cfm fan (a little noisy but moves some air alright)
a carbon filter from Foothill Hydroponics off of ebay (nice fit, hope its enough..
would like to try straight ozone in the future to see how it works)
an 8 bucket DWC system ala BlazeOneUp (thank you Blaze)
a 400 gpm aquafarm pump (dang, they are cheap $$$ hope it holds up)

consumables:
The general (gh flora and micro for the Lucas formula)
Multi-Zyme (wanted Hydrozyme after reading Blaze_69's threads but shop doesn't carry =()
Superthrive (something about it!)
and some Thrive-Alive (dogs love bones, plants love seawead!)

and some Kush clones from a friend

my only real modification to the system was i used 3/4" line to go to the feeders lines
i tried the 1/2" first but the flow wasn't very even throughout the buckets
next run i'll also upgrade the drain tubes to 1" since all i'll have to do is change the bulkheads and hose out
(1" uses same size hole as 3/4" too yeahhh)

Things where going well
and the plants where beginning to resemble Godzilla i thought


then disaster struck.
I'm thought it was the AmQuel first (i used it to remove the chlorine)
Has anyone had any experiences with AmQuel for hydro???
it might have been, but alas i think it was the fact that my cheap ass Hanna pH meter was giving me a false reading
(cheaply made not cheap$$$)
I ended up trading it up for the nice black waterproof hanna combo meter
which told me my pH had actually been around 3.5 ouch
the plants wilted and i lost one and have another in critical
an 5 that might make it but definetly suffered from the happening
im trying to save them now but it won't be much of a show

got some Blue Apollo's going for the next run though
praying we'll get a good mother from those...

Hey ogenko, crappy about the ph meter. Those things aren't cheap. I have a waterproof hanna too, love it. I also have a back up, a cheap aquarium test kit just to make sure the hanna is working... look forward to watching these grow up man.

i did nft runs in the past using the cheap aquarium test kits and was more than happy
with the ease of use and the rusults

not much to look at
they are 25 days in veg. (Lord what have i done? they should be nice bushes well into flower by now!!!)

they've got new growth coming, but i'm afraid i wont be able to let them recover fully before flowering
as i have a trip in April tightening the screws on my time frame.
hopefully i can veg them for another week and giv'em a 50-53 day flower
then start a Blue Apollo run when i return

B/R: a friend and i used to grow the m-39 back in the 80's. well it was NL5xSK1 (from sensi seed bank i think). it treated us nice for years.

I had all my mishaps when trying to grow in Soil... Def wasnt my thing, so then I just jumped STRAIGHT into hydro, much easier and cleaner imo

the survivors: 5 mini bushes and a runt

had to cut off all the rotted roots, but new ones are coming in fast to replace them
but of course being a genius, im ordered some drain cleaner
and i'm gonna dump it in my res as soon as it gets here

Hmm never heard of using that product. I would try to use some cannazym or some other stuff that will eat dead root mass. Never had root probs in buckets though so cant help ya out too much.

i had some problems with my feeder line (barbs) getting clogged up
so i had no flow
and then my ph meter went wacko on my and i had my babies in 3.5 ph water for a week
they've been to hell and back
as far as the zym, the bio-clean looks like the same stuff
all natural bacteria/enzyme mix that eats dead organics and is 100% natural safe and friendly
and a hell of a lot cheaper than the products marketed towards the overpriced weed market.

there are lots of similar all natural enzyme products for pond and aquariums that aren't rip off priced
i'm gonna test some of em out so ill let you know =)

i added some Organic Digester to my res last night (for koi ponds)
about 10 times the suggested dosage (says you cant over dose?!) res looks clear and everything looks good
crossing my fingers that will work out alright
it'll be so much nicer than getting ripped off
also picked up some of these UniSeals to start piecing together my next system

they look pretty good quality
way better than the general hydro ones i picked up from the local shop
and US made (for my fellow americans)
and about half the price -$3 for the 1-1/2" schedule 40 size
just drill a 2-1/2" hole, stick it in, and press your pipe through
clog free/high flow.....here we come =)

p.s. i'd like to see roots clog this uniseal;

Ahh the joys of building stuff for the next grow. It will be a never ending project bro LOL. Growing paraphernalia is starting to take over my house.

sounds ridiculous, but due to a faulty ph meter it is true
all me levels seem to be on autopilot now
perfect ph and temps
today i'll give these abused ladies their first 12 hour sleep
i've been slowly bumping up the nutrient levels
i'm now at 900ppm with the Lucas formula and a splash of SuperThrive
Organic Digester (a cheap pond enzyme product) is keeping my res. pristine


today they go to 12/12 and because the problems early on they only get a 50 - 53 day flower
anyone got any tips for getting them to finish up early???
i think ill set up a Pico Style pvc screen frame so i can keep my canopy even (nice thread Pico)

trying to pic out some seeds for future runs
got some Blue Apollos going that will hopefully be able to give us some good clones

Sorry to hear about your problems man. Hope it doesn't put you off growing.

i even got a little tidbit from medical_shack about a possible light tweak
that could help me cut a weak off my flower..

they stretched out a little (like yawning in the morning)
and seem pretty ready for flower mode
got the ppm's hovering a little over 1000 right now
lucas ratio still plus a little pond cleaner enzymes and a dash of superthrive (BAM!)

Im a gunna have alook around for this cheap enzymes products your talking about...30$ a one liter seems quite steep to me..thats what hydrozyzme costs....before taxes.....Id be willing to run it against hydrozyme in the trays.. damn tootin..

Hum.. your molasses question, WELL, Im nowhere near PRO but iv never given anyone bad advice that a PRO needed to fix SO FROM what I have read here and there, I'd say the best time to start giving the sweet sugar is about ever week, 4 weeks from harvest. Maybe a few times a week those few weeks before harvest.

Some people say it doesnt matter blah blah blah we all know that the plant will SUCK it up within hours and whats in the roots will get to the tippy top of the plant NO PROBLEM... BUT what I say is.. I want that shit everywhere!!

Personally Im going to be doing the dangerous ADDING MASS AMOUNT OF LEMON JUICE!!
