Seconded, the yields are nowhere near worth chasing with all the hassles.
DWC or Drip through pebbles are the best options for being inexpensive and low labor, yet still capable of maximum production.
DWC if keeping your res cold is easy, drip through pebbles or whatnot if you're unable to control res temps.
