I'm well versed in what happened with Epstein, I've even been involved with a couple threads about it on here. I don't think that means I can't crack a joke or two about it though, if we don't humor ourselves once and a while the world becomes pretty bleak.
I also think people are misinterpreting what Herman was saying. Perhaps it's only my perception, but I can't imagine the man thinks rape is ok. Prolonged prison sentences are not really something that's done or understood outside of the states, which is my interpretation of what he was saying. Most places prize reform over revenge, even though both can be pretty damn satisfying. That's not to say I don't think he deserves at least a few years of dealing with what he put his victims through, but from an alternate perspective 23 years is a huge portion of life to spend confined. Also, don't forget that's only what NY has sentenced him to, he's still got the California cases to deal with. I do also find it amusing he's a millionaire at Rikers...

its not really safe form of justice to allow mob lynching, but there is nothing that deters future criminals better then seeing some guy hung at the scene of the crime, specially when its horific murder involved. trouble is many times the wrong guy gets mob justice, the biggest irony is that even if the wrong guy is killed, people see justice as being done as long as they don't know the truth and it will still deter future evil acts.
In this day and age - with the so frequent use of cameras out there catching more and more violent crimes - many more murderers/rapists/nonce's are caught in the act - and are 'Caught Red Handed' - with undisputable video evidence that they committed the crime -

I kinda gotta agree with Herman, the system in america is warped in favor of 'public opinion', when OJ got off on murder, he was given a sentence for robbery/attempted abduction that was longer than many murder sentences, obvious retribution for his past, not strictly according to the crime he was charged with....
I don't condone their acts, nor do i think they should get less time, just that the sentence should fit the crime and nothing more, but the ultra-crooked american justice system is so bought and paid for that it's a mockery of true justice.
If it weren't, George W. Bush would be tried at the Hague for his admitted war crimes....

Major players in the Obama White House have been targeted in a law suit by Spire Law Group who is responsible for recovering 43 trillion in laundered funds and racketeering that has been linked to major banks, crony capitalists, and government officials. Plaintiffs have now identified a number of individuals who were running a racketeering enterprise linked to the following individuals, who participated in and profited from the illegally deposited money. in some states here, 1st degree murder can net you a needle in the arm or a rather severe jolt of electricity. they LIKE to use it. Virginia & Texas went so far as to fight in court trying to keep people from proving they were innocent using DNA testing after prosecutors get a conviction. "it makes us look bad to voters by admitting we have been executing innocent people. we need visible retribution..." i guess they think criminals will be frightened out of committing a crime because "by God, SOMEONE is gonna pay!"
