if only i had all those genetics, but a catchy title for the knowledgeable
i do have a nl#5 seed, old seeds from a breeder called hgs
my 1st grow here 9 years ago(or so), so that's the 9
the 2 is it's the 2nd nl#5 for me, the 1st was a female beast and still in my album
any how, 9 year old seeds are getting up there, will it sprout?
place your bets, it's going into the water

while the pot is simmering so to speak
my 1st nl#5 was interesting, to put it mildly
large yield and very potent, did not ripen quickly, 11+ weeks of 12/12
nl#5 is often described as the NL with sativa inside
thai is often mentioned, but hawaiian also brought up
but NL is mysterious, some call nl#5 a straight indica
what i got was a ferociously powerful head rush weed that would near take your head off for 40 minutes
and then a very sweet indica feel for another 3 hours
and the trichomes would not amber in any reasonable time, or even go cloudy
they would get honey colored, but a clear honey color
so i'm hoping for something a little different this time, maybe a more indica pheno
and a male won't disappoint

4 days, seed cracked slightly
and seeing the white tap, but just barely
not good, slight discoloration which i have seen before in seeds that have failed
still have 9 more, but i will try another 12 hours i think, see if it has any more life in it

edit: it did not, sigh, always hate losing a seed, like the fish that got away
so another tossed into the sprouting chamber
if similar result, guess i'll have to step up my game and use whatever it is that sprouts old seeds

not a dead thread, but the 1st seed didn't make it
but the 2nd one did, not bad for 9 year old seeds

a week+ of veg
some character has emerged, definitely more indica than the 1st grow
and a pale color, but seems otherwise healthy

flower start

flower start

5 inches and 5 nodes, my usual for start of flower
the 1st grow of these seeds bolted for the sky, barely kept it contained
so playing it safe, it does look pretty damn vigorous imho

G `day IG

NL was bred by a Vietnam Vet for PTSD .
Started with 4 seeds from Sun Shoppe Seattle .

The breeder used the Gumby Hash method to select males for resin content .
NL #5 clone was NL sent to Hawaii ,crossed to a local strain . Seeds returned to the PNW and Bx to the NL .
The selected clone was smuggled into Holland in the mid 80s
In a terrarium .

NL # 1-9 relates to the amount of broad leaf in the cross . NL #1 BLD cross - NL #9 BLD x NLD

Thanks for sharin

EB .

read through many stories of this mysterious strain
yours is a bit new, interesting take on the BLD component
could be, nl#2 seemed to have a rep for being quite broadleaf

week 1 flower

ok, originally posted this in the wrong spot, hope that's not a dark grow omen or something
1 weeks of the 12/12, looking female but not sure
i would have been good with a male, but seems to be how the universe works
very compact indica looking, just mean round leaved and squat, not doing a deeper insight into the genetics
am a little worried i could have vegged further, but the 1st pheno from these seeds was very different

week 2 flower

and so it is a femme
again, when you want a male
light color for the new growth, it's been fed plenty of nitrogen
just the quirk of the pheno
compact as hell, god what a difference from the 1st grow of this seed set

Just looks hungry to me.. Any faint smells appearing?

yeah, hungry is what i'm thinking too, maybe the PH is not in this plant's sweet spot
soil is cow compost, 1 tbsp dolomite per gallon, 2 tbsp of 6-9-0 bone meal per gallon
feeding with alfalfa tea, 6 oz in 2 quarts of water, and some molasses of course
pumped it with some more 6-9-0 bone meal, not sure if that's going to break down quick enough to help

Maybe a brewed tea would help a lil bit faster. Pretty sure nun but the yeild will suffer and only slightly. Bet itll be great smoke tho.

thanks for helping, i do use brewed teas
and you did ask about the odor, which has just changed some
had a skunk smell for a while, that's dialing back, seen that before when the leaf has the skunk odor
a rub gives me a something sweet but like many cannabis odors, hard to pin down
