to my knowledge ac unit only circulates the air inside, it doesn't exchange with outside air.

lol ....so after 5 years of constant use ..

you send it off to a paint stripper

who will charge you nothing for cleaning it ...lol

if he remembers to send it back ....lol

ac's do not exchange indoor and outdoor air.

the freon cools the inside air over the coil. Then it runs through the expansion valve and gets hot thats why it has the condensor to allow the heat to cool before it runs back through the compressor.
