In the hearts of New York and metro Los Angeles, Rite Aid installed facial recognition technology in largely lower-income, non-white neighborhoods, Reuters found. Among the technology the U.S. retailer used: a state-of-the-art system from a company with links to China and its authoritarian government.

Over about eight years, the American drugstore chain Rite Aid Corp quietly added facial recognition systems to 200 stores across the United States, in one of the largest rollouts of such technology among retailers in the country, a Reuters investigation found.

They installed the cams over the last 8 years.Riteaid said that none of the data was sent to China. LOL (pinky swear)

But yeah..an unsuspected benefit to wearing masks.

China has insane amount of cameras in some places.

I have exterior cams outside my house but the only on for inside is just to watch pets when I’m not home otherwise it’s unplugged and power off.
The company HikVision is the brand and from what I know they make the overwhelming majority of cams like this just rebranded as needed. I don’t trust China and even more so US companies that have anything to do with video systems. I’m sure the gubment is about as bad.

Ecuador bought into the whole Chinacam thing and had facial recognition cams installed all over the place.

There was a write up on it somewhere,I'll have to go see if I can find the link.

Well.That didn't take long.

“These cameras are easier to abuse than to use, it just depends what your goals are.”
